    This is what ESPN thinks.

They identified 10 categories of skills used in all sports and gave a rankings list. Boxing took first place, followed by Ice Hockey, Football, Basketball, Wrestling, then Martial Arts.

What do you guys think about this?

None of those sports use every muscle of the body like grappling does,
so i would have to say MMA/Grappling at a competitive level.

The 10 categories of skills were a fair representation of skills needed in sports:
endurance, strengh, power, speed, agility, flexibility, nerve, durability, hand-eye coordination, analytic aptitude.

I would have tought surfing deserved a better ranking than that (23 rd). waterpolo is ranked at 11!

Not really sure how boxing would beat out MMA. They pretty much do the same thing but with grappling added into the mix they train much harder then a regular boxer would.

And wait a sec, I have played football, baseball, hockey, soccer, basketball and skateboarding is much more demanding. Physically and mentally, its sometimes hard to pysch yourself up for something hard and it takes much much more practice to get good at then any of the reg sports I mentioned.

Yeah it sorta seems like they pulled these numbers out of their asses, Baseball is ranked harder then soccer... I mean come on, I sit out in a field waiting or better hopeing the ball is going to come to me then I run for 2-5 secs and catch it if possible then throw it in. How does that work...

          Cool!

But in an alternate catatgory what would be the top 10 MAs be? And what guidlines should be used to judge them?

          Example:

          Giudlines
          1) Toughness (physical)
          2) complexity
          3) training requirments and how rigorous the it is
          4) spectator poularity
          5) paricipent popularity
          6) Etc, etc

Anyway I think the mode of combat that uses the fewest rules and protective equipment would be the hardest.

My list would go something like this
          1) UfC Type fighting
          2) Judo/ bjj compitition
          3) Muay thai, K1 compitition
          4) boxing
          5) WWF
          6) Full kantact karate/ kickboxing
          7) wrestling
          8) point karate/ TKD
          9) Mud wrestling
          10) Naked girls pillow fighting

WWF? You do know that it is fake right? They do have to be athletic but I dont really think they rank with actually MAists.

On another note, darrian is that avatar a pic of ed norton? I just watched fight club again tonight and it sorta looks like a pic of him from it.

WWF fake, oh..... now thats blasphmy. But seriously it's way more hard core than Karate and much more fun to watch too. Actually I should of put karate behind mud wrestling.

              Yes, that is Lord ED!

The people who compiled this list are incorrect in many ways. First of all, hobbies such as fishing, weight lifting, and skiing are not even sports. Second of all full contact fighting, which is the most demanding sport, isn't even on the list. It combines the endurance/strength of boxing, power of football, the durability of hockey etc etc.

These rankings are highly flawed and should be disregarded.

Yes Ed is probably one of the best actors out there today. Fight club was probably the first movie I saw him in or well recognized how good he was. Then I went back and watch american history X and rounders. He is very very good in both.

I can't believe his build in History X compared to fight club. Hes a totally different guy.
