Oh my God... Is this finally progress?? The whole issue we have is exactly that! Not enough notice.

x NO ONE is saying an open tournament is a bad thing. EVERYONE agrees it is a good thing, and the more clubs involved he better.

x NO ONE is saying they have a problem with you promoting it on this forum.

What we are saying is that
    1. to make the Open Tournament even better, lets make sure we get all the relevent information out to all the clubs at the right time to ensure maximum participation.
    2. Douglas is running the tournament and that is to be applauded. But just because he runs it, and he is a black belt, and he comes from brazil, doesn't mean that every other club should switch their allegience to him.

If we can all agree on those two points, then we're on the same page and can call this somewhat heated discussion a success.
JUNE LAST YEAR and you only just got it? You did just get it didn't you? That is what you ment by this>>

No I dont do BJJ, and have only ever done one class but does that mean I cant contribute to this forum?
At least I am willing to put my money where my mouth is, when are you training next?
Or perhaps Douglas could throw us in a match on the next ETK show in May. I weigh in about 73 kgs, how about you?
        Here we go again.
Dude pls do not get offended but this is a MMA/BJJ thread.
I am trying to keep within the topic without the macho bullshit.
I don't go to other MA thread and challenge them.
If ETK has a show next month (which I am not aware of), you are welcome to participate.
Since you don't do BJJ, I will explain to you that challenge does not come lightly.
We compete in BJJ in our own weight category + open weight for the hardcore. You know where I train. I mean I don't know the name of your club?

If you want to fight in an ETK promotion, it is gonna be either submission or VT.
Both events will be hosted without mats on the same floor in the Muy Thai Ring.
        I am 90 kg.
Both events I cannot represent my team anyway because I do not train for such events.
But we are training a guy around your weight for VT?
Pls let me know if you are keen.

Mate, I said I dont do BJJ. I still think I have a right to post in this thread.
I know who you have there and what you guys are doing and have already been in contact about fighting on the next ETK show.

I think you take yourself too seriously, I didnt challenge you to some type of deathmatch I simply said I would be more than happy to roll with you. Shit dawg you can even write the rules.

Tell you what, If it suits you better I will come down to your gym and roll with you there, just let me know when

              This is so childish.
              So much excuses?
So you claimed you did not have time to prepare?
Why is it that Pablo and Ken were at the open for the Brown belt and you did not?
I mean you are from the same team as per website, they knew about the open!

                  Ken lives in Auckland

                  BJJNZ lives in wellington

No NOT prepare!!! Get cheap travel......

                    2 weeks out = $400.00 airfare
                    4 weeks our = $200.00 airfare

I train 6 times a week, dude I'm always ready to compete. I'm just not going to waste my time going to Auckland for a comp with no one to compete against... Ken didn't know if he was competeing till 3 days before as there was no one to fight in his division. Imagine how pissed I'd be if I piad $400 and didn't compete or just fought one of my team mates.

I hear you. I did not mean to be agressive.
I ussually roll on Tuesday, thursday and Saturday. see the website for the hours
When you talked about fighting on the ETK show, I thought VT to be honest.
We do not roll at the ETK event, it is only submission (one on one) or VT.
You know best club representative VS other style...usual crap..etc..
The BJJ open is different as we just want to promote the sport and every club members take part: win or loose! Only twice a year at the moment.

                      • Wardancer - 2 things
                        1. as pointed out by fumanchu - you can't compare Ken being there (20 minutes down the road) to BJJNZ flyng up from wellington.

                        2. If you keep going down this track people may ask why your coach is not seen regularly in competition, unlike other black belts in the country. this is not to in any way disrespect your coach, but more to point out that for some, and especially coaches competing themselves must take a back seat to organising the club.

                        • Ok, well I will come down and have a play.
I know all about what goes on at the ETK events, and the open.
I am sure Rog or Doug would be happy to put on a grappling match if you feel you are up to the game

                            • Anyone know where I can get a supply of Mats to use for an "open" comp?

Can't run a big comp in the Dojo but we don't have enough mats for a different venue...

                              • BJJNZ, try getting hold of Simon Ogden. He facilitated mats for SJJ when it was in Welli
