    2. Which other BJJ black belt have I seen competing recently in NZ? Pedro and Marcello at the 4 Open. Pedro has also been active in the Auckland Submision scene. Why Douglas does not compete? You got to ask him not me!
Exactly - Pedro competes every chance he gets. Douglas does not. Does this mean Pedro is superior to Douglas? Of course not. I'm sure there are good reasons why he doesn't compete and it's no black mark against him. So why use it as a black mark against other coaches. Particularly when there's the added cost in for travel.

I personally have no problem with it being called the national open, others might disagree. If it is truly national it would be nice to hold it in other parts of the country sometimes - there are a bunch of guys in chch as well. 'But the point is more, if it is to be national, out of towners need at least 2 months notification, maybe more. And particularly for higher grades there needs to be better communication as to who will fight. I know one guy who was asked to fight in the purple division only to find there wasn't one.

Don't start that, it'll just confuse him even more!

yes Pedro has the respect of the grappling community because he is prepared to put it on the line and compete. He is also a very nice guy and seems to be a good teacher from what i have seen. He does not seem to have the typical Brazilian attitude that some others have.

I don't travel to Australia to compete.

I'm pissed at you cause you only half read things and then post stupid replys. Much like the one above..
The confusion is because you keep changing your story: sometimes it is you club and sometimes it is you team tec...
You said you do not want to spend 400 dollars to fight your team mate.
Your team mate is Australian and you do not travel to Autralia to compete.
          He moved to Auckland.
Basically you could have trained with the guy back in AUS but maybe not: I guess you belong to a big team. So competing vs a team member is big no no!
So if you do not fly to AUS for compete, where do you compete like USA , Brazil?
By the way, Ken is a very nice dude.

                No confusion on my part.

GSW is my club. Will / Machado is my team.

If I spent $400 and went to Australia I would be guarentee matches, I would also train with my coach and also attend a seminar with whoever he has brought in to help. Last year was Rigan Machado, I'd pay $400 to attend that seminar alone!

But I wouldn't pay $400 to travel to Auckland in the hope that I might get 1 match against a fellow Will / Machado student.

Oh and Ken is a prick

I know as I used to train under him.
He earned the respect because of his wins in NZ.
He is an excellent competitor: always competing against anybody.
The guy is a champion from Brazil.

                    • Wardancer do not confuse what is meant here by team vs club.
Will/Machado see themselves as part of the same team. within that team there are seperate clubs, i.e. GSW, TCMA, GroundControl. We purposly enter under our seperate clubs rather than as one Will/Machado team as that would be a little unfair - we'd could win the teams trophy through sheer wieght of numbers (as it is we took 2nd and 3rd).

And yes, Ken is just about the nicest guy you could meet. Until you're in his triangle.

If you used to train under Pedro, why did you say that Strikeforce(where he currently teaches) will never have a BJJ team?

None. The word IF was used in the structuring of that sentence to demonstrate a point. (Which you have missed, again)
