All right, it seems the opportunity for fruitful discussion as passed. Please pass my email on to whoever promotes the competitions as agreed.
Cheers
You are missing the point?
If you live in Auckland, you do not want to train with a BB. it is ok?
If you were the parents, would you pay some beginners to teach your kids BJJ?

Thanks for a great discussion. I now see that you cannot read, or cannot comprehend what has been written. Here are some things to remember.
*Everyone in NZ has the highest respect for BJJ Black Belts.
*If you PROMOTE a BJJ competition to BJJ clubs then there is a good chance they will come.
*Reading and comprehension skills are our friend.
*Parents have no idea of your qualifications. Like most students they just go to their local club. (eg: how TKD thrives)
Next comp please get someone to make contact with us so we can support your efforts to promote BJJ in Auckland.

well lets not be fast and loose with the beginner term there. Purple is a teaching grade - widely held to be equivalent to black belt of one degree or another in other arts.
If I was a parent? well I am. And when she's old enough and I look to get her into some sort of martial art, I can tell you the school WILL NOT be chosen just by finding the highest grade instructor I can. That's a terrible criteria to choose a school. The things I will look for
1. Can the instructor teach. How good are they at imparting their knowledge. can they teach at the level of their students to bring them along. It's of little value to me if someone can do some cool stuff, but cannot show me how to do it as well.
2. club culture. How does the instructor treat their students. How do the students treat each other. If I raise the subect of other schools/clubs/arts how do they respond, are they respectful or petty. Are values being exhibited that I want instilled.
3. Is there a structured syllabus. Can I see a path for development. Are individuals classes and the syllabus as a whole taught in a structured format.
4. Does the focus match my requirements - self defence, tournaments, personal development, whatever it may be. Or alternatively, does the school cater for a range of requirements.
Those are just four key areas that have nothing to do with grade. There's more. In terms of grade all I need to know are - do they know more than me, can they teach it to me. Add to that the fact that I'd like to see evidence they themselves are continuing to learn and progress.
I'm not saying Douglas does or doesn't have any of these qualities. I'm just saying that these are what I would look for rather than just rushing to sign up at the school with the instructor claiming the highest grade.
geoff: woosaaah! The veins in your forehead can be seen from here!
Mike: I dont think you should use such big words like belated, and, you, a...etc
Wardancer: You are a numbnuts. Cale a boca.
A FEW HARD FACTS:
1. Douglas is notoriously bad at giving notice for his tournaments. The first one was ok, the second was like a week, this 3rd one was not to bad. (ok, not notorious)
2. Douglas (as mike pointed out) did not arrive in NZ until 2002-2003.
3. BJJ arrived in NZ prior to 1997 (not much before)
4. MANY Black, brown, purple, blue belts have been through in the time between 1997 and 2002. Douglas is just one of a long line.
5. Douglas is certainly not even close to the best Black Belt in australasia. He is not even the best black belt in New Zealand.
6. Many tournaments were run before douglas arrived in the country.
7. This includes submission tournaments.
8. Wardancer you are a numbnuts (have I said that already?)
9. I am sure douglas would gladly travel out of auckland to teach. At a price. But since his english probably does not compare to John Wills there is not much point in asking.
(actually to be fair, last time I talked to douglas his english was ok)
Thanks for the back-up guy's I seriously thought I wasn't explaining myself well and couldn't find the right words to get my point across to Wardancer. I'm very relieved to find I'm not the only one who can't get through to him.

Thanks for your time.

Well I started the thread to inform people about the event: not for a great discussion.
However, you have been informed I mention your club affiliations in a few threads and you took it a negative way.
The cage fight in Tauranga in 2 weeks is gonna be the next big event in NZ.
I will start a thread if I want to.
In case I offend some non-participating club, so be it!
My club has a rep in the vale tudo/mma because in every BJJ team you always has a tought guy that wants to fight in a cage.
Since you are a BJJ instructor, I am sure one of your students will be there representing your team colours.
This time we are not organising the event, Tauranga Gracie Barra is.
Are you taking part?

Oh yea I can add to the list.
a BJJ instructor must BE a BB not purple.
If you are purple and charge MONEY it is your problem.
If people do not respect you because of the above, do not come in this thread!
Yeah that's right.
Oh you can, can you? That's cool.
What is it?I could be.I don't know whether or not I am purple and charge MONEY it is your problem.
I am a chatterbot.That is a hypothetical question.

10. Wardancer, why does your team lose so much?
Do not try to be a wanne be so what to you mean by "Cale a boca"?
I promote my tournament.
So there is better BB in NZ according to you.
You wanna pay an Aussie to teach BJJ, so be it!
Pls promote your event.
So BJJ development started in NZ before my threathd?
No one was talking BJJ about NZ in this forum before I started it!!
Oh yes, we do get your club members to roll with us for a while!
What lose are you talking about anyway?
Thanks for the back-up guy's I seriously thought I wasn't explaining myself well and couldn't find the right words to get my point across to Wardancer. I'm very relieved to find I'm not the only one who can't get through to him.
Dude nobody care about it anyway.
You called your own pitboys from your so called affiliations!
so smart.
none of them actually participated prior.
To conclude, no one cares!
However, you have been informed I mention your club affiliations in a few threads and you took it a negative way
This is what got me into this thread.
Why NZ people would follow an Australian leader compare to a Brazilian BJJ BB base in Auckland for BJJ confuses me?
Show me the positive way to take this??????
This time we are not organising the event, Tauranga Gracie Barra is. Are you taking part?
I have answered this question. Yes some of my guys are taking part. And do you know why?????
BECAUSE WE KNOW IT'S ON!!!!
SOMEONE TOLD US ABOUT IT IN ENOUGH TIME TO ARRANGE FIGHTERS!!!!!
Unlike you and your team!!!!!! Which is the whole point of this thread and our answers and questions to you. A point, which you still, DO NOT UNDERSTAND!!!!!!!
a BJJ instructor must BE a BB not purple.
If you are purple and charge MONEY it is your problem.
If people do not respect you because of the above, do not come in this thread!
Now that is truly funny.
No one was talking BJJ about NZ in this forum before I started it!!
Do you know that this forum is not the best place in the world to advertise a tournament in NZ?? No one was talking about BJJ in NZ here because no one from NZ posts here. Have you thought of that???? So you were letting a few Australians and Americans know about a competition in NZ but you didn't tell any New Zealanders. That ma fren is just dumb.
Do the math! This thread has had 1590 views and 100 posts.. and no one has agreed with you. Yet you still think your saying intelligent and clever things?
Now, please don't read or understand any of this post, just take little bits and mash them around in you head and come back all defensive and tell us again how wronged you are and that you haven't done anything wrong.
You called your own pitboys from your so called affiliations!
so smart. none of them actually participated prior.
Not sure what "pitboys" are but the implication seems to be they're backing me up because I asked them. Well I certainly asked them to take a look at this thread, not to back me up (I don’t need any, you’re stupid) but because I thought I was not explaining myself well enough and couldn’t get ANY information through to you.
BUT: I have never met Aristeia EVER!!!
And queijao is from your city and has trained BJJ much, much longer than you. With a lot of BJJ Black Belt’s so I value his opinion highly. Also queijao doesn’t like John Will so he’s not backing me up, he’s just adding his (drunken) thoughts.
Hope to hear from you again in a couple of weeks.
Please, please, please read each point and answer as best as you can. Thanks
