  • A Call To Arms

Stop whining about how the Forum is "dying" and do something about it!

The following Forum members are hereby drafted into active service:

    Darren
    Pit Dog
    Zhoozitsu
    Judo Guy
    Hawk
    Atomic
    Masala
    Gargoyle
    EJ
    Rato Branco (where are you?)
    Patterson
    Rey Diogo
    Hura
    Goddess
    Tim Mousel

C'mon people! This Forum means a lot to all of us. Don't let it die without a fight! Stop looking at cheesecake pics on the OG, and make a post about why Rickson is the most important man since Gandhi. I know all of you have plenty of Mixed Martial Arts BS left in you...let it all out!

I, too, will endeavor to make all of my posts erudite and meaningful...or at least entertaining.

    Get to work!

            ej... homie,

i just felt compelled to respond to your concerns about this forum going "down hill".

i, like you, love this forum too. for me, it just seems like all the bjj/mma/nhb topics have pretty much been covered...

            defense/offense tactics.

            hypothetical match-ups.

            dieting.

            rehab from injuries.

            schools to check out.

            gi's to buy.

            etc, etc, etc.

the only things to discuss at this point are "new" things:

            latest developed moves (mostly offense).

upcoming tournaments (nhb, submission, jj, etc).

and when nothing is really happening, people will discuss current events (the election, the recount, hawk's latest trials, etc.)

i agree that all of the "bully" type posts are unecessary, but an occassional joke or two never hurt anybody. you yourself are guilty of a few of these "off topic" type posts. (remembering the pic of the homie with a can of suds, kickin' it on da couch with a fellow gangsta... lol)

as for other notables like fabrizio, roy haris, etc. posting, i think they were merely here to promote themselves and things that they were/are doing. there's nothing wrong with that, hell, why not take advantage of the medium. i would. even fabrizio joined in on the "Treehouse" hi-jinx when it was going down... wanting to be a member (lol).

maybe i misunderstood your initial post... eh, oh well.

            happy holidays... love ya!

            k

I think that all the religion and evolution and politics threads chased many posters away.... this type of shit is not interesting to me, and if it was I would look elsewhere for info. I see Mousel's guys of days past at ITG and UG all the time now.

I have always liked the offbeat nature of this place... and good laughs are great... but when someone makes a thread about one of the GREATEST MMA cards ever and only 3-4 guys comment on it, I feel the need to look elsewhere.

Guru has livened shit up a little bit...

              One more til 2,000.

                okay...

this is how i see it:

                ITG: hardcore, mma/nhb related discussion.

                underground: chaos, at break-neck speeds.

mousel's: the happy median between the two.

whatever mood you're in or your paticular taste, there's a forum out there for ya.

                  Come on.

This board is unique because there are so many people here that can post intelligently both about MA and things beyond, which you really can't say about most of the other forums.

If you don't like the off-topics, then you don't have to click on the thread.

Every three months we go through the Forum is DYING! hysteria, only to rebound. A lot of the activity here is current event-driven, so without a Pride or UFC (or a presidential election), things slow down.

I think Karlinhos pointed out above that posts about the latest techniques/advancements/discoveries will probably pick up the pace. As opposed to the umpteenth argument about whether Rickson's a girly man in reality or questioning if Vitor sucks, etc.

So let's quit the bellyaching and do what we do best: maintain one of the more intelligent and lively forums on the net that can spin uproariously off-topic in a very entertaining way. And informative.

If it's smart conversation, the topic doesn't matter. And that's what's pretty unique to this forum: the "smart" part (with frequent obvious exceptions). If you want strict BJJ technique talk, http://www.intheguard.com is there for you.

Now put down your crying towels ladies and let's get on with it...

                      Tony10:

That pretty much encapsulates my point. Although Steed could have said it in a more entertaining fashion.

The ironic thing, is that rato-branco was saying right before the shutdown that he wished there were more off-topic posts because the MMA debate was getting a little stale. Now he's over at ITG, eh? I may have to go harass him.

Also, like Karlinhos and Ravenman (when I talked to him) said, many of the issues we all used to flame each other over have been settled. Are the Gracies out-of-date? Yes, they are. Does Vitor suck? It depends on the day. Is Rickson an unbeatable God? Only if your handle is "Martial Artist". Even NTL has lost its luster...after a 90-minute fight which had to be edited down despite its huge ramifications, there are very few people willing to go out on a limb for NTL. Even Pit Dog is conspicuously silent on the topic.

I think there's a major realignment going on in MMA, and many of us are waiting to see which way the wind is blowing before we comment.

Now somebody E-mail Darren and tell him to GTF back here and resume his epic posts!

Yeah, Joe/Pit seemed to suddenly go AWOL after the psychoanalysis.

                            I'm feeling somewhat guilty.

I hope he is rethinking his life, and found Dog or something.

                            I mean God.
