True, BJJ is traced back to Fusen Ryu, which later became Kosen Judo and eventually all integrated to the Kodokan. This IS the pure spring. If you have ever talked with Judo players about training in Japan they tell you that the Japanese Judo model is one of impeccable technique. The Japanese believe that technique will save the day in almost all cases. This attitude has stayed over the centuries...what has not stayed however is the fuedal-era art and legacy of Fusen Ryu. This art gave itself up to the Kodokan and over the years slowly vanished as Judo put more and more emphasis on the Ippon throw.
Little did the Japanese know that while the art of Fusen Ryu was slipping away in their country, it was flourishing half a world away in Rio. Fusun Ryu/Kosen Judo is Helio's foundation, a foundation based on impeccable technique using the GI.
