I'd like to hear more indepth about your experience with these fields combined.
LOL you mean specifically animal husbandry, the Kama Sutra and seamanship?
Combined? Well, lemme tell ya... No, I better not, I just had a bad mental image of Hindu cattle in boats...
Anyway, I'm a beaten, broken, bitter old man; filled with regrets about the things I didn't do. If I was sixteen again and was already studying three martial arts I would hope somebody would at least try to open my eyes at all the other wondrous things there are in life and dissuade me from getting too caught up in just becoming a fighter. I would hope that somebody would say to me, "Look kid, you're fairly intelligent (you'd have to be to take on the study of three different fighting systems) and if you use your brains you'll never be in a fight outside of sports competition. So why don't you take that intelligence and that youth and that energy and that stamina and do something worthwhile with it, like learn to heal people and animals or understand others better or be able to grow your own food or build a house or make your lover swoon with the depth of your kisses, or be able to weep with joy and awe in the presence of great art... you know, stuff that doesn't involve pain!
JUst curious to how many of you guyz that are in here frequently and obviously dedicated some time to various martial arts have ever competed or plan or planned on doing so?
anyone else feel the same that they dedicated more time than necessary studying to be prepared for something that is all likely will never happen?

1. Any power that can be abused will be abused
2. Abuse always expands to fill the limits of resistance to it.
3. If people don't resist the abuses of others, they will have no one to resist the abuses of themselves, and tyranny will prevail.

Better to have it and not need it, than to need and not have it!

LOL, brother, I hear you! I just spent this whole weekend futzing around fixing all kinds of little things around the ol' homestead; down here it's so hot and humid outside that sweat drips into your eyes when you're just standing around in the shade!
But you'll notice I never said anything about chores, my advice was to work hard towards becoming a "Renaissance man" and not just some caricature one-dimensional ultimate fighter.

Lest my previous posts make me sound totally disillusioned with m.a. training;
I do it because I enjoy it. I believe everybody here will agree with that; you don't keep doing something for years if you don't enjoy doing it. What if we were talking about golf or billiards or softball or bowling? People do that because they enjoy it. Some are more competitive and driven than others, but bottom line, it's something they enjoy doing. My dentist is a marathoner. One of my bosses is an avid golfer, another is in a softball league. Nobody thinks to ask these guys if they regret all the time they've invested in their pursuits. My hobby just happens to have an additional benefit, a practical application.
