Well whatever! If I included all the people I tapped in training etc. I'd have a good record to. Who really is all that concerned? If you count official matches. He's probably had only a handful of fights.

They are official matches, in BJJ, Sambo, submission grappling etc.
Are you trying to tell me that's his overall defeats include training?
Rickson has been grappling since he was walking, so i'm preety sure
he's tapped out more than 400.
I'm not saying that i fully believe it or not.
I was just looking for an intelligent reply, That my friend you have failed to provide.
Yes, i am concerned, it's the difference between a "LEGEND"
and shit talking fake.
There are so many lovers and haters.......
gracilva just want's to find the truth.
Cheers.
I've seen something similar to this a few years ago. There is no way of knowing if it's true or not, even the notes say that it was compiled from various sources.
I scanned it very quickly and noticed a couple things. Rickson fought Hugo Duarte twice. The first time was at the beach and the second time was when Hugo surprised Rickson at his school. Hugo lost both, but I think I only saw one victory on that list. Also, there is a famous match between Rigan Machado and Rickson that has been talked about by many people where Rigan was ahead on points and the match was nearing the end, but Rickson managed to get a sub on him in the closing seconds. I also remember hearing about a fight Rickson had with Marco Ruas's student on the beach that ended in a draw, and there are no draws mentioned in Rickson's record. Then of course the Ron Tripp controversy in which Rickson doesn't count his loss in a sambo match because he didn't know the rules.
Since your point is just to get comments on Rickson's record, not to discuss where he stands against the current top fighters, I would say that he is probably undefeated and honest about his record, even though he is counting all sorts of grappling and challenge matches that he is being honest. Besides the Ron Tripp incident noone has come forward claiming to have beaten him. And in the late 70's and early 80's, he was the foremost bjj guy on the scene, totally crushing all opponents.
Well there is one person Alexandre Kareline who i belive come close , before his lost in Sydney Olympics.
For 12 straight years he won every match at every tournament he entered, including nine world championships and three Olympic Games.
A person who is said to be proficient in the arts is like a fool. Because of his foolishness in concerning himself with just one thing, he thinks of nothing else and thus becomes proficient. - Hagarkure
Then of course the Ron Tripp controversy in which Rickson doesn't count his loss in a sambo match because he didn't know the rules.
Good info- but What a BS excuse from Rickson!! If he won he would have counted the win. An "L" is and "L"..period he didn't learn the rules his fault. I defiunately din't know about that.
gracilva: There is a thread that talks about this and a link where Helio even says the 400+ wins is BS. I think he Helio stated that he only had like 9-10 pro fights that it
reguarding the ron tripp controversy..... rickson had fought in sambo tounaments before his matchup with tripp so not knowing the rules is a pretty poor excuse.
also think about it 400-0 is pretty much impossible. someone brought up karelin...... but even karelin lost in his younger years before going on his 12 year streak. it isn't the 400 that's so impossible to beliveve (if we're counting all kinds of events), it's the 0 losses that everyone has a problem with.
Ron threw Rickson on his back and Rickson lost. Wther it was because of the rules or if Rickson would have beat him under different rules wouldn't change the fact that he loss. The point that he lost is a fact not an opinion. Ron Tripp is a skilled grappler from what I heard, not sure if he ever did mma but rickson should not be ashamed of losing.

I remember several years ago, everyone made such a big deal about Rickson beating Hugo Duarte... They made Duarte out to be this huge monster from Lutre Livre. Turns out, Tank Abbott made him look like a little biatch and Mark Kerr was chasing him around the ring like chicken with its head cut off.
In Hugo's defense, the first time he fought Rickson on the beach, he was completed surrounded by Rickson's entourage — As is the case with all Gracie challenges. Either way, Duarte isn't a powerhouse in any MMA competition outside Brasil.
