  • Indy Tournie!! Belts Awarded!!

The Indiana Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy (www.ibjja.com) will be hosting the E.G.O. (Extreme Grappling Open) tournament on Saturday, September 25th. The tournament will be held in a nice venue in Indianapolis and will have gi and no-gi competition.
We will also be holding three 8-man invite only tournaments and one 8-woman tournament.
The winners of these divisions will receive nice Championship Belts and 2nd place competitors will receive a Battle Axe, with 3rd placers getting a Samurai Sword.
All other 1st- 3rd place competitors will receive medals.
The invite only weight classes are as follows:
    Lightweight men 130 – 160lbs.
    Middleweight men 161 -190lbs.
    Heavyweight men 191-220lbs
Women’s Invite tournament weight class is; 130 -165lbs

We are taking applications now for the invite tournament and the rest of the info will be posted on the site this week (www.ibjja.com)
Please send a grappling resume to James@IBJJA.Com, complete with height weight grappling/NHB experience, awards, Team, and any other information you think may earn you a spot in one of the brackets.

    Thanks,
    James Clingerman

This might be completely random, but why give out samurai swords at a BJJ tournament? Wouldn't it make sense to give out something more Brazilian? Like... I don't know - a coffee grinder, or an iguana, or small underwear?!?!

Maybe because I always wanted to win a Samurai Sword, but never did.
We will also be having many vendors there, for fighht gear and other such items.

Do the belts hold your pants up, or are they just to be shiny and look tough?

What's up, James, good luck with your tourney. Too far for me this time, I've been traveling a bit too much, but I would love to come out that way in the future. Take it easy, let us know how it goes!

Just how tough can a person really look with a shiny belt and small underwear? I mean, even the nunchucks aren't gonna help too much...

                    Jeff,
Sorry to hear you can't make it. Do you have any guys who would be willing to come down and compete? Anyone (preferably over Purple Belt) for the invite Brackets?

                      Thanks for the info

I live in Indiana now, Lafayette (go Boilermakers), and I want to definitely compete.. I have a friend that trains in Kokomo, his crew is called animal house, and I'll see if he can get me ready for that tourney. Thanks for the info.

                        DDRive,
I teach the BJJ for Animal House so I KNOW they can get you ready for the tournament! I actually teach a BJJ class at Donnie Micjael's Academy Tuesdays and Thursdays.
                        Pass the info along.

The Belts are in and are OUTSTANDING!!!!! We still need a few people for the Middleweight (161-190) and Heavyweight (191-220) Invite Brackets. The rest of the tournament is shaping up nicely.
