Does Anyone here know where I can get belt stripes that are color specific instead of the standard black stripe? I.e. Blue stripes, Purple, etc. Thanks

    hi jkdcman,
your query brings to mind a question. here in the philippines (and for white belts) at least, we sew a black piece of cloth about two inches long on one of the ends of the belt. this black cloth then serves like a "background" for the white stripes that are wrapped around it as they (the white stripes) are awarded. if it would not come across as a huge desacration of tradition, i'd like to share that most people (in fact, everyone i know) use strips of masking tape to effect the stripes.

it would be very education to find out how other people in other countries do it. do you mean to say that there exists somewhere out there an appropriate type of material that is supposed to be used for the stripes?

    thanks.

No I just mean color stripes like in kenpo. I would like to give students the color stripe of the belt they are striving for. However, I cannot find purple stripes anywhere. I could just get material and make my own, but I would much prefer to buy them.

oh, i see. in that case colored tape may still be the best bet. for a while there i was worried. visit your local bookstore or office supply warehouse for more details...

Lowes or HomeDepot usually have colored electrical tape. If not try a hardware store. It can be tricky to find at first but once you get your supplier down it no big deal.

And you are a BJJ instructor awarding 'purple' stripes to your blue belt students?
