NHB Spice,

I'm not a grappler, but Wouldn't a big guy easily throw a small guy off when he sits up to start pounding? Why not lie down and go with small headbutts ala Shamrock/Royce?

It depends on how much skill he has. If you produce a good base and he doesn't have the proper techniques to push you off, he will get frustrated real fast. Most encounters I've had, my heavier opponent usually trys to push me off when i'm not active(ie. Punching/elbowing). I've never had anyone I've rolled with attempt to push me off when I am agressive.
Some tips for you when he is trying to push you off:
a) Use a swimming movement to deflect his arms off your chest/face etc and drive your shoulder into his neck. This sounds corny but actually works well. Gracie basics series shows this move.
b) Switch to knee on chest and counter with strikes.
c) Go for numerous arm lock submissions.
d) Grab the back of his neck or head- This establishes your base again and makes him stop pushing you because he is going against his own force. Sperry shows this in his tape series.
e) My favorite- stand up in your mount while holding his outstretched arms, and use knee drops to slow his aggression.
f) Relax- become loose in the mount. If your stiff, he'll toss you over quick.
As I mentioned previously in another thread, the guys I roll with have at least 40 lbs on me and 99.9% of the time I am never reversed with sheer power, only technique.
Happy mounting!
