  • Question on legalness of a move.

So I was wrestling the other day and I pulled off a takedown called the sweep single. Basically you shoot with your head inside. you aim low for the area between the ankle and the knee. Once you get hte leg, you spin behind them and drive them to the mat. After seeing me do this, the whole team is having an argument whether or not the move is legal in High school wrestling. Can anyone share some insight?

I'm pretty sure the sweep single is a core takedown at all levels of wrestling.

I think Legal is an interesting question. In HS wrestling there are many rules but I believe they are geared more toward what not to do versus what to do. I remember that move but I don't think it was a sweep and it was usually as 2nd 3rd move off a missed TD, turn the corner and almost have cradle position.

I am rambling but my point is there is no rule prohibiting he move and no rule that would. Ultamitely don't debate just look at the rule book (BTW - if someone asked your coach this question and he didn't know that's really scary)

It's not that he doesn't know it's just that he thinks that that move is putting too much torque on the leg and he is afraid the ref might call it.
