    BJJ training for the street

Everyone develops their own strategies for fighting. This is important and helps to "personalize" a style.

I think it's important to be aggressive with BJJ. To do this, developing the CLINCH is critical. This will allow one to take control of the fight, taking the person to the ground on YOUR terms (read ON TOP!).

I personally use the guard only if I screw up somehow and have to escape. For this reason, I believe one should look to escape or reverse/sweep ASAP. Their are many good escapes and sweeps from the guard. It just all comes to how you train. Use the "triad" offense: attack the arm, neck and balance. When one attempts to protect one or two of those, you attack the third. It works quite well!

Train also to keep your hips out to one side when you're using guard. Don't keep them underneath your opponent. You can do much more when they're to one side of him.

    Just my two cents..

    Happy Holidaze!
