  • Style Of Fighting

The way people fight in the west is very different to how those fight in the east. For example in England a street thug will head butt someone break his nose then when he falls to the ground kick him in the head.

In America, Red necks tend to use round house punches, hooks jabs.

In China neither of these styles of fighting are used. They focus on centerline punching.

My point is old legacy systems like kungfu need to readapt for the use in the 21st century. your thoughts pelase.

Shortest distance between 2 points is a straight line, which is exactly what center line punches are. I don't see any reason for kung fu to adapt to the 21st century. It's as effective as any other art or self defense.

      Here's my thoughts,

Your racist, bigoted attitude evens permeates into your ideas of how certain people fight.

You really fail to make a convincing argument for the evolution of certain martial arts.

For the most part fighting anyone in North America is pretty much the same, in general what u get is alot of really wide haymakers and footbal style tackles and charges. Of course not all people fight like this there will always be exceptions. As far as the other countries couldn't really say haven't really fought anyone from there. Afterall no need for me to do time in a Chinese prison. As for older MA not being effective I can only say this. People have been fighting for thousands of years there is probably no single technique or style that has not been used in the past. The problem is there's no real documentation and over the years information decays and people forget. So all these "new" styles and techniques are really just borrowed from antiquity making those so called "out dated" styles as relevant today as they were 3000yrs ago. ( Im talking about pure hand to hand, no need for flamers to get all rowdy about me not mentioning that the older arts don't include much if anything on firearms).

I dont live in England, and headbutts are my favorite. What would make you think that we dont use headbutts.

Also I havent fought a person that used haymakers and football tackles since highschool. Nobody fights the same, , everyones unpredictable, and most people fight better than they are given credit for. You cant stereotype, or underestimate anybody. rednecks do this and christians do this, while muslims do this...this is crazy.

            What a troll.
You should adapt your thinking to the 21st century.

I'm not saying that everyone fights with these exact moves only that most of the people I've fought (or in fights I've witnessed) usually just turn into a slug fest and then someone gets taken to the ground and stomped. I shouldn't have been so stereo typical, I'm just saying what I've seen. This is just because most people don't train to fight. They use whatever is practical to them and for most of the people I've seen fight they always seem to go for the real wide KO punch, then kick em when they get on the ground. It does depend on the kind of people you fight/see fight more so than where they live. (Most of the fight I have been in/ witnessed have been against rednecks so I'm somewhat bias)

Just because kung fu is so widely known throughout the world doesn't it make it the most effective. Just because Jet Li, or Jackie Chan look good doing it doesn't make it effective. Just because in the old ancient china days, that's how shaolin monks fought, that doesn't make them better fighters than the people of old europe. People need to grow up and actually think about what they are saying. And to me, i find the scientifics of the filipino martial arts to be much more productive than those of the chinese martial arts

Interesting, I like the history of the arnes And I've found that ancient Spanish, Italian and British schools of fencing were no less sophisticated. In fact Philipinos have fairly preserved some of those old styles...

This whole post is silly, as everyone fights in a similar fashion in some form or another :P

I live in England, and can attest to what the original poster says. English people flip out and headbutt people ALL THE TIME. This one time, an Englishman was on holiday in France, when someone tried to kiss his cheeks as a way of saying 'hi'. Next thing, the Englishman headbutted the entire town.

This other time an American came into an English pub, this really pissed off one of the locals who totally headbutted him in the face. But what he didn't realise was that the American was from Texas, and straight away roundhouse punched the entire pub before exploding.

The real case scenario is; if you are a skilled martial artist then no one is going to fight you head up. They will either pick up a weapon or they will "jump" or "bank" you with several of their buddies.

If they do fight you head up then they must be a skilled martial artist also. The big thing in the city now is trash talking and psyching out your enemy. People need that verbal exchange just to get motivated for combat, Hence let your fist and feet do your talking or be prepared for an Armed Confrontation. Keep your mouth shut you are only motivating the enemy. IMHO
