  • Anyone see the pizza fight video?

Guy is attacked by 6'4 300 pound man, who breaks his eye socket, his nose, and a bunch of other stuff. There's like 5 guys just standing there watching adn doing nothing while the guy is on the ground getting beaten.

The video is also depressing because I think even if the guy knew martial arts it wouldn't have helped him in this situation because the guy sucker punched him and then started beating on him before he had a chance to react.

How could you defend yourself if you were this guy? And if you were one of teh guys watching what would you do?

Stomp through the guys knee. He's a big boy, so you definately don't want to let him get as close to you as this poor guy did.

The big guy hit the phone dude 6 times before he got KOd. Looks like he got suprised and wasn't expecting to get hit. The only defense: getting used to getting hit on somewhat a regular basis (as in some hard sparring). Try to shake it off if you can and get to work.

By getting used to getting hit, do you mean getting used to take the pain, or getting used to knowing when you're about to get hit so you can block it? I don't think either one is possible... In the first case the big guy can hit really hard so being able to take the hits is not something that can be trained, and in the second case, there is no defence against a sucker punch.

When the big guy gets his lady to step aside, that tells you something is about to happen and the last thing you want to do is give the guy your chin freely with a "what's up!" staredown.

Yeah, can't do much about the sucker punch. Only hope is to have somewhat of a chin and try to stay busy.

In a spontaneous situation, you go on instinct and reaction so you would do whatever you know how to do. Plus your on adrenaline, so anything could happen .

Here's the background story to the video:

The video shows Mark Jones, who is more than 6 feet tall and weighs almost 300 pounds, repeatedly striking Joseph Scarpino in the face and body as customers watched.

Jones was found guilty of felonious assault last week and was sentenced to four years in prison.

Scarpino suffered a broken eye socket and nose, a concussion and a chipped tooth in the beating.

The incident began when Jones' girlfriend cut in line in front of Scarpino.

Scarpino was on his cell phone and told his fiance it might take a little longer to get their pizza.

Jones' girlfriend got mad at the comment and created such a commotion that the manager tried to kick her out.

That's when Jones stepped in and hit Scarpino at least seven times.

Jones' girlfriend, Prestia Sims, is scheduled to go on trial next month for her alleged role in the incident.

She also spit in the pizza guy's face. And then the big dude stole the guy's cell phone.

OK. First, I couldn't hear everything real clearly but it seems that the guy was saying something on the phone that was offensive to the woman who overheard.

If he had a clue he wouldn't have said something that offensive (a racial slur, perhaps)?

Based on this, maybe the 5 or 6 people standing around had heard him say it, too, and were also offended so figured he deserved what he got.

Second, I wouldn't consider that a sucker punch. There was plenty of warning that something was going to happen.

How would I defend myself if I were the guy? First, by not saying whatever he said that ticked the woman off. Failing that, I'd have left when she started yelling - if for no other reason than the ability to talk on the phone without all the background noise. Even if I hadn't actually said something offensive, I'd have left when I figured out that she was ticked at me.

If I were one of the guys watching, I'd have tried to deescalate the situation. There were quite a few places where it could have been done. One would have been to actually escort the woman out like the one employee half-heartedly started to do. Another would have been to escort the phone guy out.

There were tons of possible scenarios in that video and quite a few of them wouldn't have resulted in anyone getting a beat down. It's important to remember that the altercation didn't start when the first punch was thrown - few, if any, ever actually do.

Ah hah. That sheds a little light on the subject. Sorry I didn't read this before posting mine (I guess that's what I get for not reading the whole thread) But I'm guessing that Jones's comment to his fiance was actually something more along the lines of, "It may take a little longer to get our pizza because this !@#$ !@$# !#@$ just cut in front of me."

Still no reason for all that commotion. But it still could have been avoidable.

However, it could have also been a set up to rob the guy from the get-go.

My original statement still holds water, IMO, though. There were a lot of options available before that first punch was thrown.

Good to see ya, Mike. Remember stopping by Missouri to work out? I BBQ'd you a couple of hamburgers, and you showed me some philipino throws.

I'm up in Porltand, Oregon, now. I just got here. I moved up here so I could work out at SBG and help out with some marketing and sales stuff. It has already been epic, and I haven't even been to the gym yet. I'm loving it. Oregon is much more my vibe, compared to St. Lou.

                  I hope you're well.

Oof. Is your real name Rex? If not, what is your real name. I'm not ringing any other bells in St. Louis but that doesn't mean much ... I travel a lot and have worked out with a lot of different people. I'm usually better with remembering real names once I've met someone in person.

Or do you have a pic posted somewhere - I'm much better with faces than with names in general

I hope my name isn't Rex, cause if it is, I'm paying all of Dwayne's bills, and mine are just piling up.

That should have said "work OUT at SBG" and NOT "work at SBG". I'm nowhere near the level to teach there. At all.

I edited my post, but it's still wrong in mike's quote.

Why do you hope for his or her name is not Rex cause if it is he or she is paying all of Dwayne's bills and his or hers are just piling upI am so glad you find this amusing, .

Sensei Saki doesn't make a lot of sense, but she sure can run.

ROFL. That's good! No, I'm sure that you're probably Dwayne and not Rex. The name Dwayne does ring a bell but I can't picture a face with it.

I saw the video on television on real tv or the news I can't remember which. Big difference I know, but the audio was clear and easy to understand. Really all that the guy said was that it would take longer. He did say it with a little bit of attitude but in my opinion he meant it only for the person on the phone not the girl cutting in line to hear. The girl is pretty much just a spaz and her man an asshole. I realize that I don't know them personally, but you guys saw the evidence to.
