  • Couture Vs Lidell 2!

Whats everyone's thoughts on this fight, their first fight is up their with the best fights I've ever seen, maybe even thee best, personally I cant wait to see what happens, makes you wonder what their thinking about being coaches on that ultimate fighter show....

I got Couture winning again, hes amazing in the octagon. I love his takedowns.

They're composed professionals. I'm sure they probably like each other, and I know with out a doubt that they respect each other. I love that show, because it shows you they're dynamic compared to that of the amatuer fighters.
If only you could get an even better cross section with professional MMA guys, I want to see what Vanderlie Silva is like as a coach, or maybe even Kaszushi Sakuraba.
Tank Abbot I think would prove to be their antithesis. Still would be interesting to watch.

      Couture.

lidell is perfectly capable of koing him, but i just dont see it happening.

is it true that mark kerr spanked couture as well as kurt angle in college wrestling?

If I remeber correctly, Kerr beat Couture in the heavy weight division. I'll have to look it up, or someone else could because I'm either in the middle of some thing or lazy.

Couture has never been knocked out. It doesn't mean he can't be, but he has more than proven himself to take a shot.

A great matchup. Couture a great wrestler with very improved boxing skills, and it showed in their first fight. Liddell a former wrestler who prefers to standup and throw blows and is just feakin' phenomenal with "getting back on your feet" skills.

I don't know about Couture but he certainly didn't spank or even beat Angel. I would love to see Angel get involved in BJJ. That man would be unstoppable (in my opinion).

As far as the rematch my bet is on Couture...

          Until again...

Agreed Chris, I think Angle would make a great MMA guy.

Most wrestlers make would awesome MMA fighters, because they get used to taking abuse on the mat and they are allready in really good fight shape.

Thing is though, angle's had his neck broken 3 times.... kinda hard to fight like that... even in the WWE...

Lidell has a better stand up than Couture the interesting thing though is that Couture won the first fight with his stand up game, he outstriked possibly the best Light-Heavyweight or even UFC striker there has been. I love that ultimate fighter show and hope there is a second season, maybe with new coaches, Ortiz and Belfort? Haha that would be great, I wish I could train under Couture

Even though I'm giving it to Couture I think Lidell is still very dangerous, he has one HELL of a chin... some kickboxing/pride ive seen of him.. whew... and he has the ability to land the big shots, like he did vs Belfort.

Personally, I'm not impressed with Kurt Angle's REAL wrestling abilities presently. I remember seeing a special where he was messing around with up and coming college wrestlers and getting owned. Also, I know plenty of wrestlers who aren't more skilled in grappling even though they started BJJ about the same time as I. The simple truth is BJJ and wrestling are completely different and you will have to start from scratch. Neither one translates to the other by itself.

Most athletes evaluate what they're capable of before they pursue something. It's kinda like the old Muay Thai story - you have some guys who are phenomenal in practice, but can't fight in the ring. Fighters go into fighting because they believe they can. Others with similar abilities, without fighting prowess, decide otherwise.

Anywa, back to the original thread. I think this time Liddell may take it. He seems the more hungry of the two.

More hungry? Couture looks fatter, fat=hungry, lol jk.

Shoulda put a poll up with this thread.. damn... hopefully whoever wins fights tito, or belfort, most likely tito though, because he beat Belfort in the last UFC.

Ive got more respect for Couture than any other MMA fighter around. He just seems like a man with respect and honor. That being said if Liddell gets his chance to unload (see Liddell v Ortiz ((47??))).... i dont know of to many men who could take that punishment and keep going....

It was UFC 43 BTW, and the amazing thing about the fight is Lidell never had a chance to unload, Couture took it away from him, however I have seen Lidell unload on some people before, and only one person beat him after he has unloaded (obviously I havent seen all his fights), Lidell Vs Quinton "Rampage" Jackson was an amazing fight where both fighters unloaded on each other, Quinton managed to whether Lidells storm, it can be done and Randy has a hell of a chin.

                          TOTAL bullshit.

Wrestling translates to BJJ very quickly. They are both wrestling, only the rules differ. Wrestlers learn arm locks FAST..many already know them just from screwing around.

I would agree that they're both a form of grappling, but their teachings and philosophies are different and those are detrimental to learning each.

I don't agree with you regarding arm locks. Most wrestlers I know can't pull them off any easier than your average person. Submissions is an art that is perfected over time, as part of the BJJ, Judo or whatever delivery system. I haven't seen Kevin Randleman, Mark Kerr, Mark Coleman or very many wreslters pull the same arm locks/submissions that are reminiscent of MMA today.

You have to admit they would not start at ground zero though, they would have all that mat time, all the experience gained from that, basic functions and techniques down, theyd understand how to go about doing those things, and would be able to execute them more easily due to their past training of executing many moves like them, maybe theyve never done a arm bar, but I'm sure they've spent a ton of time working on how to deal with the arms while rolling, I'd say a wrestler would learn BJJ at least twice as fast as the normal person.
