Ye right, win by points in sport Karate maybe!
    unlikely to win by KO.
BJJ is the only MA you can learn and spar versus bigger guys until you either tap or they tap.
And that is real, like or not if you do not tap you will pass out or brake your joints for e.g.
At least you will know if you suck!

EmptyneSs, in regards to polegirl, mind you she does not live in the USA. What may be legal here could definitly be illegal in Australia.

Also its funny how you guys say that a 4'11" tall person could not compete with an advesary much larger than them unless they take BJJ. Most arts teach you to not use force and to use technique instead. Still it comes down to weight. Every 20lbs someone has on you is equivalent to a belt level higher. fe4st1an1te probably weighs about 80-90lbs. Thats a lot of technique she would need, and to gain that technique would take decades.

BJJ is for sports purposes, not self-defense. One should learn what they need. She says she needs self-defense then thats what she should study. BJJ will never be as good at teaching self-defense as programs geared towards self-defense. Same thing, a self-defense course will not make you good at BJJ. Taking BJJ for self-defense is like telling her to play rugby, paintball, or football.

Also, stop talking about pepper spray. Its garbage, I have used pepperspray for seasoning. its capsicum, that's all. It will not drive away a determined attacker. All that happens in these situations is this. The attacker attacks and gets sprayed with pepperspray. he gets pissed off and keeps attacking. Since his body is covered in pepperspray he smears it all over you while trying to wrestle. Both of you get covered, and you end up having to fight anyways. Worse case is if the winds blowing, especially if its blown towards you. It's messy and useless. I like Tantos idea of her having two knives. That would definitely keep people away, though it might put her in jail...better than dead.

        Far out!
        You got me speechless!
Your ignorance of BJJ must equal your arrogance.

That might be better than living in a BJJ box. Every other word you write is BJJ. It gets kind of old. And BJJ is not the only art where people spar others of all different sizes. It is not the only art that teaches technique over power. I know I cant convince you of anything. You're in that BJJ cult. People fought well before BJJ ever existed. Imagine that! What would they have done? But she is not looking for a sport like BJJ, TKD, football, or paintball. She wants to learn self-defense so she should take self-defense. Oh well, I'll let you guys argue it out.

            HtTKar is pulling total retard.

BJJ is for sports purposes, not self-defense.

BJJ has sport, MMA, and street/SD application. Yeah, yeah, we know, the ring/cage isn't the deadly streets. Guess what, BJJ is proven on the streets too - you don't get anymore street than Brazil.

BJJ will never be as good at teaching self-defense as programs geared towards self-defense.

Most SD programs aren't worth shite bc they don't use "aliveness" principles in their training.

Taking BJJ for self-defense is like telling her to play rugby, paintball, or football.

You know what, she'd be better off playing full contact football than some bullshite RBSD system. At least Football involves non-rehearsed, real physical contact.

Also, stop talking about pepper spray. Its garbage, I have used pepperspray for seasoning. its capsicum, that's all.

Yeah we get it, you're Mr. tough guy bc you order the 911 hot wings ffor lunch. Law enforcement is silly for carrying that shite. It works more often that it doesn't.

I like Tantos idea of her having two knives. That would definitely keep people away, though it might put her in jail...better than dead.

Don't listen to this ass. A novice with knives is more likely to have them turned and used against her. You're such an ass dude.

Yeah, people in the martial arts, for the most part, fought very badly before BJJ/MMA. Martail arts have evovled more in the last 10 years than it has in the last 500 years. It finally caught up to the standards of this modern world where scientific testing that is reproducible, and legitimately verified is the standard. Before this, martails arts was just a bunch of mysticism, conjecture, and unproven theory.

                Kung Fu

I'd recommend Kung Fu for starter's:

They will help you with your confidence for starter's and show you that you aren't helpless. They will mostly tell you to be more aware of the situation's you put yourself in. Being Self Defense and all.

Hapkido is supposed to be good for women I thought.(!?)

                Check it out.

Kung Fu will tell you to not get on the ground for one thing- so maybe it would be wise to try BJJ as this is most likely to be a scenario of interest though.!

While it is true that you can't take on the world at 4'11; Kung Fu will give you confidence.

Have you read the April issue of Grappling magazine? Your Grand Master was on the cover (AGAIN!)

You wanna talk about "pulling total retard"?

                    I realize this guy is in his 90's but I never expected HIM to say something like this;

"If someone points a gun at you, of course, you will be scared. But jiu-jutsu gives me the equivalent of a bullet proof shield. It protects me from head to toe, plus it gives me the ability to take a gun away."

BJJ also implies that u need strength...
BJJ is not a pure brute force type of thing. It's the application of properly applied force, positioning, timing, and leverage. If you actually did BJJ and were proficient in it, you would know that.
                      Aint this the truth.
                      I'm 100kg.when i started training i was 120kg.
                      I was choke out cold 4 times,armbard,crossface choked,triangle out cold,rear naked choked.
you name it happened to me in my first class,And all by a 45kg aprox 4f 11inch 26year old woman.
And i was trying to kick her ass so bad.
I knew that was the fighting style for me.Then i discoverd ValeTudo and nogi soon after.
                      Me so happy.

In relation to everything that has been said on this thread (and please ignore the BJJ sucks or is great arguments), the best thing (I believe and the thing to remember is that this forum is only people's opinions) is to try different martial arts (and places that teach them) and find one you like. Stick with it. You will gain confidence in yourself and an understanding of when to fight and when to walk away.

It was my cousin who kicked my ass.
i feel that Vale-Tudo has taken off well with the ladies at my club.
You may as well learn to be an all rounder than to get cought with your pants down so to speak.

btw, how do u guys think The Undertaker from WWF would do if he were to compete in mma ? Also, do u guys think a "choke slam" would be a pretty good self defense technique ?

What about the Big Show. That dudes like over 7 feet tall and like 400lbs.

                                The Undertaker RULES.
The question is.Has the Undertaker ever realy been hit.We know these guys can move.
But,when it comes down to it,MMA is the art of Mortal combat and these guys are playing for keeps.
I say if you can get the "choke slam", use it.
But just remember its against the law to choke people in many countries and states.
So if the cops ever ask you,You were just trying to hold onto them to prevent injury to yourself.
