  • Question for u grapplers about Pankration fighting.

So what is it? I always thought that Pankartion fighting was just a more formal word used to describe MMA?

But recetly i read an article that said someitgn like "since the demise of Pankartion fighting took place MMA has been popularized due to UFC blah balh blah...etc...."

So wut the hell is pankration? IS it MMA? Is it BJJ? Or is it a combo?

It's NHB without punches to the face, only palm strikes. Bas Ruten was the shit in it.

There's Pancrase in Japan, which is as described above, and there Pancration (sometimes spelled Pankration). Pancration is supposed to be the rebirth of an ancient greek fighting art. In the end it is, like MMA, a collection of punching, kicking, and grappling techniques. There are a few instructors who claim to teach the original Pancration . . . oh yah, and they shoot monkey's out of their buts too.

Sersiously, there isn't any "real" difference. It is just one part of the martial semantics used to describe the collective arts more commonly referred to as MMA.
