  • did ken shamrock throw the fight last night?

why did shamrock "slip" and fall last night twice in the same round while fighting rich franklin?

after his second fall, he just froze up and started taking punches..........that doesnt seem like the frank shamrock i have seen in previous fights.

I was just about to post the same question. I think Rich franklin is a good fighter, but this looked so staged. Ken kept itterating How Rich has to pass him to move to the next level, but he didn't say it like "hey he has to get through me it ain't gonna happen" more like "it's possible I'll loose and if so to a good fighter" but this is before the fight. I was really pissed, Ken didn't even try to defend himself. If you are going to throw a fight please take some lessons from boxing.

I dont think the fight was fixed. I think he fell because his fight was third fight of the night and the surface was pretty slippery. the fight before had alot of blood. Why would the fight be fixed? Can you bet on UFC fights?

Ratings. Ken Shamrock vs. Joe-Blow, on Spike TV!!! The pre-show interviews were pretty much like a soap-opera. Nice and mushy and even they seemed staged. Honestly, did that sound like the kind of thing Ken Shamrock would say?

Ken Shamrock is not a "classy" guy like the announcer said after the fight. He's an animal. How many fights have you seen him practically spit on the guy after he beats the crap out of them?

It was so hyped up. "The up-and-comer...can he beat Ken, the first hall-of-famer?!" Ken: "He'll have to get through me if he wants to prove himself. He's a tough kid, but I'm tougher!" After the fight, "Oh my god, the contender has DONE IT!! He has beaten Ken Shamrock!" (Shut the HELL up Fear Factor, guy...) "Thank you Ken, thank you so much for this opportunity!!"

Drama, drama, drama = ratings = more UFC = more ads, endorsements and $$$. And what does Ken care, now? He's already proven himself. So I think either a) UFC/Spike paid him alot to throw the fight or b) he likes the kid and threw the fight so he could get the contract.

That would have been a pretty lousy ending to the night, wouldn't it? If Joe Blow beats Ken he gets a 6-figure contract and becomes a real UFC fighter!! Oops, he lost, too bad. Goodnight everybody!

              What fighters lose.

Written by zhorner: (after his second fall, he just froze up and started taking punches) Unfortunately one of the first things that an athlete lose is their ability to react. and Shamrock is 40+ years old. And it sounds like his reflexes are gone.

i understand that he is over 40......but its ken shamrock. what the hell is the deal. ken does not slip and fall twice within 2 minutes, and ken doesnt try to kick over 6 feet in the air. he bull dogs through his opponents and beats the shit out of them.

rich franklin is not a fighter who would need or take a fixed match, sometimes you get your ass handed too you thats life.

you can bet on the UFC its Vegas they bet on anything.

the mat had loads of blood/sweat on it from the previous match its got tons of big adverts on it those prone to be slippery when wet and blood takes quite sometime to fully dry.

although Ken Shamrock has been involved in fake wrestling (WWF and whatever) I dont think it would be finacially advisible to lose a fight to such a newcomer especially in this way damaging his rep and all unless he is done with mixed MA, still I dont think unless it was multi million dollar deal (which I dont believe UFC has that kind of money to waste on a fake event) and besides most fixes at least go on for a while to prevent the crowd from picking up on the scam.

                  just my thoughts

Ken Shamrock through out his hip while attempting to punch Franklin. From what I heard this could mean the end of his fight carreer. But I really doubt that this fight was staged. Dana White and Zuffa are fans of real fighting and would not have a person throw a fight. No clue if the pre-fight things are staged but they did sound like they were trying to hype themselves up by saying if the other guy wasn't careful they would knock them out. I doubt anyone told them to say that.

Rich Franklin wasn't fighting for a contract. He already fights in the UFC and although relatively new he has shown he can fight with some of the top fighters.

He just got his ass kicked, don't make excuses for him. Every fighter does if he stays in the ring too long. You gotta know when to retire and become a teacher or a coach.

Time for Ken to retire and do Kata at the beach. Then become an instructor or a coach. Go somewhere and meditate and enjoy nature; he had is day. Time to do kata.

I'd just like to point out that Rich Franklin wasnt some new up and comer looking for a 6 figure contract to get into the UFC. Hes 19-1, well 20-1 I guess now, I think hes been the middleweight champion before, he wants to go back down to fight Evan Tanner for the middleweight champion, hes supposed to be an extremely good up and comer.

I was a little shocked when he got out of the shamrock leg lock though, the first trip was believable the second I dont know, it seemed like when he was going down and Franklin punched him... he didnt even try to put his hands up, then when he was on the ground, he didnt put his hands up till after 3 punches... 3 clean punches basically ends it... ah well, Couture and Lidell next week... go couture.

There is few comments about Sham throwing the fight..

How many of you honestly felt or got caught with a clean punch in striking comp?

If you never felt one then ... Go get hit and then you might change your mind..

Same thing when Hopkins hit Delahoya .. Kidney punch ..
the average non striker it's "WHAT THE F.UCK.. WHAT A PUSS.Y"

Sham tried to go for a ankle lock.. he tried.. no biggy he's a legend and probaby would kick everyone's ass in this forum
