tree-fugger[/B]]Oh hell, just one more, I promise. And I will be thorough so I will not have to reply again. If I leave anyone out, consider yourself insulted. Lets start with you Tomthum (come on, post those replies, 99% can't be wrong {note no real insult was thrown in your direction, but that should suffice}).
Yeah, you got me there.
BOSTON aka Mattbla you just can't resist, can you?
Hmmm...untrained fighters? hehehehe cmon down to Fl sonny, we can go hang at the clubs i was referring to, go ahead and call these guys untrained fighters....see how fast your MT and bjj run out of answers for the questions those "untrained fighters' ask with their uneducated hands and feet...
you ever even seen a "1 percenter" boy?? .....keep on talking nonsense....this thread is about street effective martial arts and Vu has done TONS of research and development on that subject, as have the large majority of bikers (RUBS not included).
you invited people to YOUR club, im inviting you to MINE...
I dunno man, Those look like some pretty serious dudes there...i dont think i wanna tangle with john Hotti and crew... (i did consider snagging a couple of those pics from sherdog though...but you beat me to it )
I got an e-mail that said "insulting" and "should be banned" from this thread,
and I thought it was me! (you know those e-mail things from the forum, and I thought Tant01 said 99 percent of you foo's want me banned, or some shit, guess I read it wrong.)
Who the **** is this treehugger guy? What's his beef anyway? Is this guy fuckin' serious, or is he just like that Boston bitch, TKDguy or Mattblahhh...or who was the other one, GREENTHINKS? fuckin' weirdo's.
By the way...those guys are kinda cute. It's like a Gore Vidal ad meets supa-gay night at zippers. That guy drinkin' a heinie? I'm gonna go vomit now. thankx.
dont think anyone should take those metro's pictured above on in any kind of fight, seeing people like that trying to fight you stand a very good laughing yourself to death............or getting impaled on their hairdo's, their is also a chance they would also want a "not the face" rule, spoiling everything
we have been in existence for thousands of years, are you telling me that some guy that came on the scene in the 70s suddenly discovered a new way to dominate other people?
JKD was a breakthrough in the traditional martial arts community, during thye 70's - similar to how grappling was a breakthrough in certain kinds of self-defense in the 90's.
Even during most of the 80's MA was still traditional. Effective, sure but still rigid in the sense that you followed a system and learned 100's of techniques to advance to higher levels.
Its still gets respect today, because the instructors keep innovating. As Mike pointed out earlier, many in the JKD community were grappling before UFC was even conceived. The important thing was that they were allready integrating grappling into their stand up work!
Chuck Norris himself picked up the Gracie system when they were little known outside a few cities in California and was a good testimony to the system that YOU study.

The ironic thing to me is he studies an art which supposively "improved" on techniques that are at least a thousand years old but then tries to ridicule somone else who he thinks has done the same thing.
I probably don't know what I'm talking about, but wouldn't bjj be less useful in a streetfight than in a competition. In an actual fight i would imagine if you got someone on the ground, it would be more effective to kick/stomp them (or to just run) than it would be to get them into a submission of some sort.
What is it about BJJ that attracts these classless wannabe thug types? I mean to dis Guru Danny Inosanto, the man's a living legend who's been grappling for problably longer than this punk has been alive.
I don't see why everyone thinks martial arts don't resemble real fighting..
Hell why do you practice martial arts? I'm sure SOME of you practice it for self defense. I agree partly that they don't resemble real life fighting fully but they do resemble some of it at least. Hell, You say you wont do some techniques but what about the scarf position or better known as the infamous Headlock, that is used alot in "real fighting" and we learn how to break out of it in BJJ.
Sports do differ ofcourse, otherwise it wouldn't be a sport imo. Sure you wont encounter knives and sucker punches in the ring but you will probably face a haymaker, punches, kicks, knees, elbows and takedowns. I wont go to the street and jump on the guy and put him in my guard so I can fall head first in the ground, but I can use a single leg takedown on him. I can also use a cross, jab, low kick, knee, elbow and the other moves on the street.
I think combat sports resemble real fighting as much as possible. Its just up to you to choose the right moves you want to use. You have to consider the most of the fights on the street involve people who don't train in martial arts. So I would say a boxer, grappler or any other stylist has an edge no matter what.
And Mike, when you say that when someone taps they let him go, you forget that they can keep the hold on and break the arm or choke him outcold. Releasing the hold in the ring is done out of respect to the opponent and the rules.

......
This is EXACTLY the kind of thinking that reflects the OVERCONFIDENCE of some "martial" artists.
The guy with the knife has the "edge" regardless of his training.
I'm not forgetting at all. I'm pointing out that you simply have no options except to break the limbs in a fight. You can't really "injure to degrees" because the techniques are basically all or nothing - either you break it or you let the guy go. Don't get me wrong - I've always said that competitions (sport martial art) are far tougher than real fights. But real fights are a lot more dangerous - potentially. The concern is, what happens when the "fight" you're in is pretty minor, and your only real option is to snap a guy's joint? I'm just not sure how a jury would see that is all. If you're fighting for your life, heck - choke him out and then snap all his joints! I just think maybe a bloody nose is a more humane way of dealing with some conflicts than breaking bones.
Well I just said you could break the bone. Personally, I would probably let go at some point... But I've never encountered this situation so I wont talk too much. But you said they let go in the ring, I just said that they could keep it and break it. ;O
