  • Wow, these threads do go on...

Put two men of equal skill together, where one has superior strength, size, speed, endurance, resilience and flexibility. Who's your money on? The more athletic guy of course.

Put two men of almost equal physical attributes together. One trained in strip-mall karate, the other in Muay Thai. Who's your money on? The man with the delivery system that's been tested in an alive, full-contact environment.

The answer is mind-numbingly simple. The most effective street fighting arts will:
    1. Seek to maximise physical attributes
    2. Not use any delivery system that does not work in an alive environment.

Which arts are those? COMBAT SPORTS.

Sorry, but 99.999% of the time, the guys who train in boxing, Muay Thai, Greco, Judo etc etc will kick the ass of your local karate kid.

But what about dirty tricks I hear you cry? "I don't need to learn any ground game, I'll just jab the Judo guy in the eyes and kick him in the groin!"

Look at it from this perspective...

Pro boxers throw THOUSANDS of jabs in training and in the ring. Yet they don't always connect. Now how do you expect to strike a MOVING target the size of the human eye with a weapon the size of a finger tip, when professional athletes have trouble landing with a weapon the size of a 16oz glove?

How do you expect to toe punt a guy in the testicles when you'd find it hard to land a shin kick to the thigh?

Ladies and gentleman, there is no debate. Now quit the mental masturbation and go and train.

    • As far as the Alex Gong saga... there is little ANY martial art can do to keep you safe in a knife or gun attack. Stating the obvious in an attempt to undermine the effectiveness of a reputable delivery system offers nothing productive to the discussion.

      • The strip mall Karate guy usually is in horrible shape, so there goes your equal physical attribute theory. The Karate guys I know who actually train their stuff the way it's supposed to be trained are a force to be reckoned with.

        • I think, if anyone trains anything for a long time, perhaps 8 years... he will be good in street fight, just train hard and you will be able to defend your self on the street, it dosent matter what is the most effective, what matter is, is it effective? and probably many of them will be or all answered whit yes!

            hello,

echo that dogzilla. eight years of (proper) training will make someone fairly tough.

have found the most dangerous system in a fight is the proper mindset.

greatly underestimated on many (possibly most) cases.

            thanks.

            • I have heard that is not so much the style, but the attributes. I believe it was Paul Vunak that said something to that effect.

I don't know about that. Too many ANYs in that categorical statement.

                      • a story i wanted to share here was about two of my old training buddies in muay thai. these guys were two brothers who trained in muay thai along with me and some other guys at AKA. these guys were at a concert one time and found themselves outnumbered 3 to 2 in parking lot after the show one time, and they were able sort out their opponents easily. no weapons involved, but they were at a disadvantage in numbers.

my vote goes for muay thai. although not a complete art, but its an awesome delivery system that is easy to add to.

                        • The most effective street fighting style is Mario Sperry Vale Tudo.

It will not just get you the strikng on the feet (Muay thai , boxing etc). or the grappling on the ground (brazilian Judo) but both striking and grappling on the ground and on the feet.

You see in a real fight people don't just strike on the feet (muay thai, boxing etc), or grapple on the ground (judo, juijitsu, bjj, wrestling ) they smash people on the feet and the ground, all the while grappling on the feet and on the ground.

I have for sale my Mario Sperry Instructionals which cover the essence of "anything goes" fighting, all ranges. See my post "Mario Sperry, gi, no gi, nhb " instructinals or contact me.
