  • Jason Delucia new stuff

www.aikidog.com Just wanted to see what everyone thought. For those who don't know after the UFC Delucia went to Japan and studied at a Pancrase gym and had a decent career in Pancrase. He also went on to create Combat Aikido and currently teaches that and mma I believe. On the forum he claims to have used aikido in his fights but I do not see anything like it. I checked out the video clips and some of the mma stuff looked okay but a lot of the combat aikido things looked ineffective. Has anyone seen any of his videos? All the reviews on his site were by aikido guys who enjoyed them.

I've never seen Jason Delucia fight, but we do have an instructor at our school who is a first Dan in Aikido. I've only seen him use it on the ground, and that was blended with some Silat to help the spins.

Other than that, i've never seen him use it.

Twice. Actually, the first time wasn't a tap per se...he couldn't take the ass kicking anymore, so he said "stop."

He studied bjj off tapes when he faced Royce the second time, and he fought again later in one of the UFC Japan events and got his leg broken from a tkd by Joe Slick. He had been in Pancrase for a while when he had that fight, it seems to me that combat aikido would probably be more mma oriented with just an aikido title use to sell to that particular audience.

I find it soo funny when someone mentions the name Jason Delucia the forums fill up with his fights against Bas & Gracie. They make the assumption that he is not good because he lost to those two fighters. (the last time I checked, many incredible fighters lost to those two guys). Lets not discount Delucia because of those losses. (how long ago were they??)

Look at his web site and check out his record, see who he does have wins against. (I was impressed). Would you go into a Gracie Dojo and challege them to a fight??? Have you ever been hit in the liver??? Imagine getting hit there by Bas Rutten and having the strength and courage to keep getting up. He has earned my respect.

He is a true martialartist, always studying, training and improving. He won his last fight in just over 1 minute at Frank Shamrocks shootbox tourney. He was a member of the Lions Den. Lets get beyond his losses to the UFC & Pancrase champion, and start giving him the respect he deserves.

Ohh and to answere the question of the origianal thread, yes, I bought his Combat Aikido DVD's and they are awesome.

Arent' the dvds just mma with some aikido principles thrown in, I mean he could've just did mma dvds. I have got nothing against Delucia, but he seemed to lose the closed fist pancrase and mma and did fairly well with the open hand pancrase for some reason.

No; they are mainly aikido but done so it is very effective against real resistance. He starts on DVD1 by demonstrating very basic aikido principles, then shows how to apply them for real. On the two DVDs teaching groundwork, he does it using aikido principles on the knees.

The randori (free fighting) sections are really good, particularly on DVD5. It answers the question as to whether aikido really works against a good opponent who is resisting hard (yes; at least, this aikido does).

I talked with Jason DeLucia. For some reason, his account here's not working so he can't post. But he suggests people should look at the pictures of Aikido's founder Morihei Ueshiba doing front chokes and side chokes on the ground:
