marijuana can for sure help people regarding martial arts. when i am stoned im able to grasp concepts alot easier cause i can think about them more in depth, and in different perspectives. marijuana also stimulates the creative part of your brain, so alot of people will roll stoned and come up with really clever new techniques and strategies.

smoking bud also helps alot with weight lifting. u can concentrate alot better, use better form, and lift a little more. some of the best weight lifting workouts ive done were when i was stoned.

whats cool is marijuana smoke wont kill your lungs they way tobacco do. thats why many athletes smoke bud and still perform. the cleaner u smoke it the better. using a bong will filter your smoke with water, reducing toxins. i can smoke everyday if i wanted to and still train hard, but if i smoke 1 cigerette i can feel it the next day.

some people get stoned and just act like they are 2, or just go to sleep and some people get really intellectually in depth and can control themselves. i never smoke and just giggle and do stupid shit, instead i get really deep in thought and just think about stuff. its not for everyone, but certain peopel can for sure greatly benefit from pot. the only thing really bad about pot is that its illegal in some countries.

    LOL!

Make sure to include this when mothers ask if they should let their kids do BJJ.

Pot is for sissies. It's all about the blow, baby. Ever tried to tap someone who is whacked out on coke? How about heroine? They'll freak out on you, possibly bite you, tap you out with a flawless narcotic-fueled armbar, and then go to the corner and clutch their knees to their chest while shivering.

      Excellent.

          To Ryu and Majorfufu

Major..I really agree with most of your points and appreciate your tolerant perspective. Ryu, Rickson Gracie is a big fan of the reefer, if Rickson was your teacher would you leave to find a "better" instructor? Ridiculous.

IMO...99% of the people that bash pot don't have a clue what they're talking about. The media and the war on drugs in this country has made absolutely certain that you won't get the truth about pot. But people who use it regularly know...

Pot smoking is bigger than any of you non-smokers can imagine. There is a whole sub-culture; an enlightened sub-culture' right under your nose that laughs at everyones ignorance.

I am sorry that I mentioned Rickson's name, but that is not too big of a secret anymore. But without saying any more names, let me say that, yes pot smoking IS huge in BJJ. The Bud smokers know each other and hang together. Unless a person is "Blazing" high, it'd be very hard to tell if they had smoked at all. Weed is TOTALLY different from cigarettes! It won't **** your lungs and won't make you stink. And as said previously, it definately expands your mind and can stimulate your creativity and thus help improve your game.

For me, I am more along the lines of train hard and sharp and sober till you're exhausted and then go relax with a nice blunt...but it's all good. Different strokes for different folks.

The fact that pot is illeagal is just Sad! I fully agree that anyone who feels the same should get out on May 7th and make a statement. I for one have a pot leaf on my favorite gi! And will be rolling for the cause!

This is utterly illogical as well as foolish.

Look, I'm for legalization, and I haven't got a problem if somebody wants to smoke some, but y'all need to quit buying your own hype...

People can tell when your high - maybe they don't know the difference between high, drunk, or just dumb, but you aren't as invisible as you think. I used to think I was invisible too, but I can now pick a stoner out pretty fast.

Your alveoli (lung parts) don't like hot particulate (smoke). You are fooling yourself if you think smoking everyday isn't messing up your lungs. Honestly, did you think that searing, hacking, 'can't breathe till this goes away' cough was a good thing? That's your throat trying to take the bullet for your lungs. What you say, you don't get that hack anymore? That's because your throat took a lot of bullets, not because you're good.

Finally, the 'sub-culture' isn't really all that. I was there, and I know it's pretty much just a bunch of people trying to convince themselves that it's about something more than getting stoned and drinking beer, but it really isn't. You aren't sticking it to The Man 'cause he doesn't care - and you aren't putting one over on the straights, 'cause we've already been there and moved on. The hippie movement in the sixties was a sub-culture; the Greateful Dead scene was sort of a sub-culture; smokin a jay with your friends isn't any different than drinking gin with your friends. And it isn't the least bit 'Alt'.

As a matter of fact, it's so not 'alt' that corporate america is making money on it selling hats and shirts and patches and whatever with leaves and '420' logos and whatever else. I'm telling you, when you can buy your sub-culture at the mall, it ain't.

Just weighed in for my tournament tomorrow, and with a now keen eye I spotted many many potential herb users. Most had lots of tattoos and big beer bellies though too (the tank abbott type...)

I'm going to start paying attention to who is winning and try to imagine whether they're "toned" or not.

Ha I'm starting my own subculture: teh guessing-whose-been-smoking-subculture...

I'm told that even many of the top bjj'ers smoke pot before tournaments... Urban legend?

Do smoking pot and training bjj go hand in hand? I've only trained with one guy who smelled like pot, and he never really put up any offense, just kept telling me how confused he was (I'm not making this up)...

Maybe I just didn't notice that the other people are stoned.

                        So what's the scoop?

(if you can't tell I've had a pretty sheltered life... )
                        LOL,
I will give a real Rio legend, BJJ are known to have the pitboys: bullies than wil take on any fools in/outside nightclubs using group attacks and claiming to belong to famous BJJ clubs.

I was watching Penn and Teller's Bullshit a tv show on showtime. The spoke with a doctor from harvard medical school who conducted a study on the effects of marijuana. The Harvard Medical Study showed that marijuana has no harmful effects. The only effects he had heard of was increased appetite. Also said that tunnel vision like effects occur which allow you to be focused more on certain things.
