what are some famous people that do vale tudo and kick boxing. if i do kick boxing what will it improve?

  • #2
Okay, I could be wrong, but I think Vale Tudo is just the Brazilian (Portugese) phrase for 'mixed martial arts'. Anything goes is the rule - of course there are always some rules for sanity.

By that definition, every Mixed martial arts guy is doing Vale Tudo from the Gracies on down.

kickboxing is a general term referring to any round based competition which allows kicking along with punching. may also allow knees, the rules vary by the promoter.

So: Some form of kickboxing (stand-up striking game) plus some form of grappling loosely equals Mixed Martial arts.

Marco Ruas and Mario Sperry are two of the more well known who promote Vale Tudo...for kickboxing Chuck Norris, Benny Urquidez and Bill Wallace are a few of the more well known who are or were associated with the sport.

vale tudo means "anything goes". Guys that train in it that I rolled with tell me that its just BJJ without the GI and they wear head gear and other pads to practice striking and stuff while they grapple.

          Technically, it means 'everything' goes.

without any knowledge of grappling (e.g BJJ), kick boxing would be useless for VT.

Yes that is true, but because BJJ is used the platform for VT.
You could use MUY THAi as a platform like the Vanderlei and cross train in BJJ to avoid ground subs.

That is correct in Brazilian terms.
However, I think VT is not MMA.
VT is flexible by the fact it is a fight with rules that can change compare to MMA like UFC or Pride.
