we do some tap-out grappling in my neighborhood, and its fun cuz i know a good number of moves and i know how to move well, and balance and use momentum and stuff, thing is there is one move that all the new kids use and seem to do okay with. One of them even did it to me (he has like 30lbs on me and a good amount of hieght and strenth also...)

what this move is: Wrap legs around body, choke with both arms from behind.

this is such a "nooby" move and it's so annoying i really need to know how to prevent it form happening and how to escape it, can anyone help me?

    thanks

    rear naked choke

Once someone really locks one of these in, you'll be lucky to get out if they've done it right. There are so many ways a person can get your back, that I don't think I would want to attempt to cover any of them here. It is bad to let any opponent on your back though. If they do get your back though, keep your hands near or even against your head and neck so you feel your opponent coming for the choke. When he does go for it, grab his wrists to control his hands and keep him from choking you. At the same time you're doing all this, scoot sideways and rotate your body towards your opponent (as if you were trying to face him) so that you stay on your back and your opponent has to move to his side to continue holding on to you at all. In this position, a lot of your weight should be on the inside of his inner thigh. You have already mostly blocked your opponent's ability to choke you in this position, even if he still has his legs locked around you, and you have other options of where to go from here. If you can push your upper body away from his you might be able to go for an ankle lock or heel hook. You can just continue rolling over into your opponent's guard, or perhaps lots of other things that I haven't learned yet.

Your best bet is to recognize early when someone is trying to take your back though, and stop him early. If you've given your back to someone for whatever reason get at least one hand against your head and neck so you can feel your opponent coming for the choke and defend while also trying to keep your opponent from wrapping his legs around you or getting his "hooks" inside your thighs. One other simple mistake everyone seems to make when they're very new and they're taking someone's back is crossing the ankles. If someone gets your back and crosses their feet/ankles when the wrap their legs around you, you might be able to push their feet down and wrap your legs around their feet crushing them together. Be careful and go slow to give your opponent time to tap or whatever if you're just playing. Or perhaps you won't be able to trap your opponent's feet in a position that hurts them at all, just depends. You can break bones in your opponent's feet if you catch the right position, are strong enough and squeeze hard enough.

Sorry if all this is hard to visualize. It would be better for you to have an instructor that could demonstrate in person...

The RNC with the hooks in is not a "nooby" move. It is one the most dangerous and effective moves in submission grappling/mma.

I'm not an advocate of "backyard" grappling - it's an uncontrolled environment and begging for someone to get hurt. I hope none of you discover the heelhook.

Join a real BJJ/Submission Grappling school where you will be the noob.

If I sound negative, it's only out of concern for you guys.

Im a huge fan of backyard grappling and do it whenever I can, because I always win against the people cause they dont know shit.

On the other hand, the rear naked choke you described is probably one of the most dangerous, and best submissions there are, a nooby move, sheesh, it may be an easy submission to perform, but getting to it is difficult.

Chokes and choking in backyard session could casue injury-I agree.

Unless, there is a qualified person there with a good level of skill to monitor.
