  • gi sizing experience

i'm 6"2 and weigh around 84kg (is that about 180-190???)... basically a tall athletic build.

seem to struggle between good length and body fit. i do not like baggy gis at all, tho i need to balance it with being too restrictive. A3 or A4?

anyway, i'm considering a koral, atama gold weave or a keiko raca gold weave. anyone care to share their experience with sizing?

    thanks kindly in advance.

thanks for the info vince. so, you find the korals are a slightly bigger make than the other 2? interesting... though i have heard some complaints about the koral pants' length (ie very short)...

anyone else out there with experience wearing any of these 3 gis and size proportions similar to mine?

      cheers

4 is good, Im 6'3 190 and its fine, if its too big just keep washing it and drying it in the dryer and it will shrink up, I like long sleeves however, for those ezekiel chokes

          thanks omaplata.

yeah, i also prefer to have some length in the sleeves rather than riding up the forearm... as long as it's not too baggy. which gi brand(s) are you using?

My Keiko A3 is a lot more snug than my Atama A3, and I found Koral to be the loosest of the three. I also found that the Keiko shrunk more than the others - the Koral is labled as "pre-shrunk". They are all great gis though. Decisions, decisions! I'm 179 cm (5'8") and 80 kg, BTW.

                thanks aseepish.

yeah, decisions, decisions!.. seems the more i try and do my homework, the harder it is to make a decision. lol

i got a good sense of the body fits from your descriptions aseepish. excellent. could you tell me how the sleeve and gi body lengths varied between the three?

                thanks kindly

The Keiko gi has the shortest sleeves (because they shrank down more than the others), the Atama has the longest, but not so long that they become a problem. For body length, once again the Keiko is shorter, the Atama has a bit of a skirt, so it is longer.

A word on the pants - I found the Keiko pants to be a bit snug for me, but the Atama and Koral pants fit perfectly - roomy without beeing baggy.

thanks aseepish. that's all very useful and informative. i'm a bit taller, so if i stick with the A3 i may be better with the atama.

any other rollers out there wanna share their sizes and gi fits?

                    cheers

thanks again aseepish. i'm familiar with the joker jui-jitsu site... a valuable resource for gi research. nevertheless, i would like to see more thorough information about gi sizing and fitting for various weights and heights. i think it's especially helpful when we get the comparisons between different brands.

nothing substitutes the chance to actually try the gis on. however, if you live somewhere like hong kong, that just isn't possible. furthermore, shrinkage makes it difficult to judge sizing from a shop try-on.

so, come on people... share your gi sizes and body shapes/sizes. it may prove to be a valuable reference thread for many in the future.

                        cheers
