  • Ogawa?

ADCC News had a rumor about a Rickson Gracie - Naoya Ogawa fight upcoming.
Can anyone tell me a little about Ogawa? I am not familiar with him as a fighter.

    Thanks

He is a judo champ... maybe an Olympic gold medalist.

    Pro wrassler...

He has beaten Big Daddy and Satake in PRIDE.

He is a tall bastid... at least 6'5".

Ogowa won the silver medal in Judo in the 95 kilo division in the 92 Barcelona Olympics.

Note both Goodridge and Satake matches some people have said were works. I havent seen either match to make an opinion on it. Also Ogowa is a popular pro wrestler (more so then Sakuraba), that is the main reason why financial backers are more likly to pay Rickson his large purse for this fight.

Satake vs Ogawa was ugly for sure, but didnt look worked.

Big Daddy was an ugly one also... but I think it was legit.

Ogawa just fights ugly... head turned, hands out... yeesh!!! Someone will break his jaw soon.

Here is Ogawa against Gary Albriht as a pro using his secret hold named S.O.S. (Spinning Octopus Special).

Here is Ogawa vs Don Frye in a "streetfight". Rickson doesnt stand a chance, LOL...

About the Goodridge fight I heard that Goodridge threw punches intentionaly at Ogawa's shoulders rather then his head. Goodridge hinted that this was a work after beeing intreviewed after the fight saying that he got a "bonus" pay after the match. Though recently when asked he has denied that it was a work.

              silver heart?

as i recall, some japanese judoka were really upset re: that silver medal, & questioned his heart.

going pro may not have endeared him to purists, either.

Ogawa was many times All Japan Judo Champion after Yamashita retired. He also won the World Championships in 1991. He placed 2nd in the Olympics in 1992 and placed 5th in the 1996 Olympics after losing the bronze medal match to Frank Moeller of Germany.

He retired from judo after his disappointing finish at the 1996 Olympics. He hooked up with Inoki and started a pro wrestling career. I think he's pretty popular in Japan as a wrestler.

Since he is associated with Inoki, I would imagine that any MMA that he has done has been a work.

I wonder if Rickson would accept the pay for a worked match? Probably not?
