  • leg submissions

i really only know the achilles lock and the strait kneebar. I have a strong friend who i can't tap out with these techniques. Are there any other good leg submissions that anyone could point me in the direction of any maybe tell me how to perform them (like the heel hook)?

Heel hooks are very dangerous, talk to a qualified instructor about them.

You should be able to tap him with a kneebar, you probably just aren't doing it right.

      "Martial Art(s) Studied:
not much besides grappling in the back yard and some high school wrestling practices "

That's why you can't tap him. Go get a qualified instructor.

oh jeez im real sorry, and all i have anywhere neer me is JUDO which is all GI and i dont enjoy that. I have fine technique with me keylocks and triangles and armbars but my kneebar does need to be worked on, maybe its the angle im pulling from?

If this guy is truly a friend, you probably shouldn't heel hook the guy. By the time he holds out and taps to the heel hook, serious, permanent damage to the ligaments of his knee will already have been done.

For the knee bar, make sure his heel and the back of his knee is facing up. Hug and pull the leg with your whole body, not just your arms. Also squeeze your legs together.

For the achilles lock, make sure the "knife" of your forearm (thumbside up) is right underneath his achilles and not too high up on the calf (the "boot")

While I don't condone backyard grappling, I can sympathize with having such a passion for it but with no legit place to train. Be careful and try buying some instructionals (have everyone pitch in)

Have you called the Jiu-Jitsu school in Maryland yet?

And a gi is a training tool, don't dismiss it just because you don't like it. At this stage, you can benefit from everything so take advantage of it.

                thanks

and yeah i know gi's are tools, i respect them and i love it when UFC guys use them in fights, just because its different. and no i havent check that thing in maryland.

in college there is a group of kids that do JJ and i hope to grapple with them ALL THE TIME, and i will most likely find a school somewhere once i'm into it with a few college friends. until i get to college i'll just have to practice stuff with my boys at home, practicing takedowns and stuff.

and good call about the heel hooks i think i will chill on those. Thing is, my kneebar technique seems right from the videos and comments ive seen, but this kid i grapple is just allot bigger than me and it seems like i just can get it tight enough, even when i press with my whole body, extending and bending the knee backwards as hard as possable, i dunno why.

Oh you don't "enjoy" that! Yet you keep moaning about wanting to grapple.

Stop being such a little bitch and go train. If Judo is the only thing around, then practice Judo.

You aren't doing the kneebar right if it isn't forcing him to tap. It doesn't matter how strong someone is, if they are caught in a submission hold, they are caught.

its not my responsability to grapple in a GI, i like to grapple, and i want to get into it.

i'm nobody's bitch for not doing it one way

and yeah badger my kneebar must need some work

If you want to grapple, there is grappling available in your area, but you choose not to grapple because you don't "enjoy" that one, you need to shut the **** up already.

Judo could be very helpful to learn, since a good takedown will let you start in a good position on the ground. Just go and you might actually learn something.

                            ...

There are lots of cool tricks to "jacket wrestling" that you won't find grappling in trunks and lots of Judo works without the Gi just fine

go to a real school and stop asking stupid questions. everyday you have some stupid post about you and your backyard wrestlers. lets see first it was you dont choke because people pass out, now you want us to walk you thru leg submissions. take the judo class and they can teach you stuff, or drive a little distance and find a bjj school. I drive 40 minutes to train. there has to be a bjj school somewhere in rhode island, and as big as RI is you should be able to drive across the whole state in under an hour. Look in providence thats a big city or anywhere that there is a large potuguese community. The brazilians feel comfortable in towns that have a lot of portuguese.
