  • What is the crazy monkey?

I've been hearing a lot about the crazy monkey stance these days. What exactly is it and how is it done? Pictures would be nice as well , thanks.

its a style that Rodney king came up with from S.africa....think of titos silly little dance while chuck pounded him...that was an attempt an crazy monkey...granted he didnt do very well...he seemed to forget the part about avoiding blows... its similiar to the comb the hair technique from Silat.

I'm still not too clear as to what the stance looks like. Could you describe this stance in more detail please?

        surprised
to hear that you are not clear as to what the stance looks like.Your polite style is very nice.

uh okay ...ever seen Mike Tysons "peekaboo" ? the S.P.E.A.R program? Silats dive? all follow the same idea...its for dealing with aggressive punchers... its not a rigid thing...its like trying to fight a crazy monkey...hence the name. try the Straight Blast Gym or search this forum...Im sure Burton still teaches it...

Correct me if I'm wrong but is Crazy Monkey where your hands rest on your head and have yoiur fore arms in front of you to shield yourself?

Put your palms on your forehead and bring your elbows together in front of your face. Now you're doing the crazy monkey. It basically forms a structure in front of your face so you don't have to worry about parrying. It's a great tool for getting into the clinch, and it gets beginners comfortable sparring very quickly.

Rodney goes into much greater detail in his DVDs, on how to deal with body shots, how to use the crazy monkey for counter punching, etc etc.

                        okay...I'm confused.
At an Erik Paulson seminar, he told us that the crazy monkey was more like the parrying and deflecting you see in muay thai...with the forearms.
The one where you just put up the brances and cover he referred to as the "Oh Shit".
