  • MMA over 40?

I like other people have been swept up in the MMA craze and was wondering if there is any bouts for over 40 year old fighters? I am not Randy Couture so fighting younger guys is just going to get my head handed to me? Any thoughts? Cheers

You should go for it. There's a guy that's at least over 50 in our class and he hands me my ass all the time. I think there is a disadvantage to older fighters but they often have great skill that easily beat the younger fighters. Even if they don't win props to the 90 year old for having the balls to get into the octagon.

most promoters will match people up by weight-experience etc. I don't think they would have a problem matching you up with someone close to your age.

Go for it! The training's fun, and a good coach should be responsible enough to make sure you don't end up in a match where you're totally out of your league.

Thanks to all who replied. Good to know that I am not the only "old" fart out there who loves this great sport. Cheers

            Old Dudes

I believe if you're over 40 and compete, you're crazy, a super athlete or both!

A guy like Randy Couture that still competes in MMA at the highest level, this guy is already a legend and so many people love the guy.

Couture, Teligman and Van Arsdale are 40 or older and they all put it on the line tonight by going to fight in the UFC Ocatagon.

If you're older but train smart, you can still compete. But it's all about how you train and your mental attitude.

Fortunately in many martial arts, there are age divisions along with the belt and weight divisions.

I wonder if the UFC would have an old guys division.
Bring back Marco Ruas, Bas Ruttan, Pedro Rizzo and many more guys that are up there in their late 30's and into their 40's.

                Go for it!

I think there may be Senior classes. By all means, give it a shot!

Random habbit to pick up. Think about it a bit if you have children.
