  • Just curious about chokes.

Okay if you got into a fight and ended rear naked choking someone till they passed out, what happens to them ? Assuming you release the choke once they pass out about how long would it take before they regained conciousness ? Trianle choke would be the same thing too right ?

if the choke is done right your opponent should never regain conciousness.

According to this article http://bjj.org/articles/971008-revive/ it takes about 20 seconds to regain consciousness.

        Let.... go?... what?....

lol joking.. in all seriousness.. probably about.. .30 minutes... I mean with you kicking them in the head and all as they lie there unconcious...

now seriously... about 20 seconds I would imagine, enough time for you to run away anyway....

or kick them in the head...

In fights I've seen its a few seconds of total unconciousness and a few more seconds until coherent - so 15-20 seconds sounds about right.

For informational purposes - I've put the choke on once or twice in bar/bouncer situations and never put anybody out cold. Before they pass out, you can feel them start to get weak and compliant, then you can release some pressure. I'd suggest that doing it that way is just as effective and less risky.

Speaking as an EMT, here's one danger of a choke-out:

A person's windpipe is protected from material going down to the stomach by a fold of flesh in the throat which creates a one-way door. This door doesn't work with stuff (vomit) coming back up. The only real protection from vomit entering the windpipe is the cough reflex which does not function on an unc. victim. that person has a much increased risk of aspirating vomit and choking - and sucking that vomit further into his lungs and choking some more.
The reader can see where I'm going with this... Your guy has just been in a high stress, high exertion situation (fighting), he may be drunk or on something, and now he's unconscious. Think about this when you get that choke sunk and put the pressure on.

Thanks for the information.. I was just curious. Because I have seen BJJ matches on highlight dvds and what not I have seen a couple of people get choked out, Thats why I was curious on the time.. I know Husky if done they will never come back but i personally would release the choke as soon as i felt the persons body go limp.. Now if i wanted to kill them i would hold on for maybe another 20 seconds or so.

The time it takes a person to regain consiousness after a choke depends a good deal on how long the choke was applied. I've seen examples where it took 20 minutes! five or ten minutes is about average if you choke them OUT. If you release the choke immediatly the effects are much more temporary lasting for as few as 10-20 seconds.

I reccomend killing them so you don't have to worry about another attack. If there intent is to kill you I see no reason to show them mercy.

I think you made that pretty clear with your last post. I tend to agree but the law might have a slightly different view of SD. Once you choke him out he is no longer a threat to you. Doing further harm might make you a murderer in the eyes of the court. Kicking or stomping them while they are out is no better than what they might do to you. Don't be that. There is hope afterall that this guy(s) might see the light and become productive law abiding citizens...

That's part of the beauty of a choke. Easily reversed effects that render your attacker helpless in seconds... Why kill them? I mean if he has a weapon I could see inflicting some (serious) trauma but nothing a trip through the operating room can't fix. Teach them a lesson, yes. Kill them... maybe not? I wonder about the justification for SD since the DA will likely charge you with some crime(s) should your victim/ attacker die...

                      Me? Thanks for
pointing that pretty clear with your last post out.Do you mind if I tell other people:
said tend to agree but the law might have a slightly different view of SD.When? Thanks for the information:
said I choke him out he is no longer a threat to me.How does doing that make you feel?I think there might be a few exception.I was not trying to be a that. There sure is.Makes sense to me.Can you be more accurate about the time?
Reductionism.Oh I get it. Thanks for explaining that. I don't follow your reasoning. What about other times?Killing is wrong.Perhaps. Are you serious? You are curious about about the justification for SD since the DA will likely charge you with some crimes should your victim attacker die.

I don't like taking communal showers with guys covered in tatoos and wearing an ass guard. Even in basic training we had individual shower units with shower curtains on then instead of that gay ass communal shower high school thing thank goodness.
