  • MANHANDLED!

I went to class (BJJ) last night and got manhandled by this collegiate wrestler who came in to check out our school. We were doing drills where we have to escape the opponent's mount; and I was the mounted. Besides the fact that he's 20 pounds heavier than me, I've only been taking BJJ for maybe a total of two and a half months, of and on for five months. This is just plain whining in my part although I would be happy on anyone's input/comment on this here post.

    side mount

you're lucky it wasnt a sidemount drill. that would suck even worse to try to escape. having some wrestler crush and maul you from sidemount is far worse than full mount if you ask me. feel lucky

      Long,

I'm sure things may even out the more you train. Rome wasn't built in a day.

i agree with lacry-at first this guys wrestling skills will make up for his lack of bjj knowledge-but once you start getting your technique dow then this guy wont be as difficult to submit-he'll still be hard to manuever around-but easy to submit. from personal experience, wrestlers tend to use too much strength and aggressiveness while grappling since that is their wrestling game-but also from experience, this guy is going to catch on to bjj really fast and going to be a good sparring partner

Don't even worry about it. Wrestlers are very good with positioning. You'll get better and learn how to deal with it. Are you from the Philippines?

Mad Dog: I was born in the Philippines and been here (states) since '80. SD BJJ, yes he will be an asset to the school, since he could probably show us a takedown or two, but the way he sounded last night after class, he don't seem too interested. He came in the class which has 90% beginners, which I assumed he mauled every single white belt in there. I hope he didn't judge BJJ based on last night's experience. Lacry and hounddog, thx for the encouragement...

If he is foolish enough to judge BJJ on one experiance with a bunch of white belts then his loss. We don't need those kind of guys. Those are the same type of moron's who don't tap when you are doing randori. Just wait a while and you will be suprised how fast you improve. Then take his arm and make him cry.
