  • I don't understand how mouth guards protect.....

I really dont understand what mouthguards do to protect it.

There is the fact that is provides a little cushion for your teeth, but the only time I actially got a tooth chipped via some contact with someone was when I had one in.

So uh...how does a peice of plastic iin your face prevent much of anything.

If you look closely at the anatomical details of your typical inferior maxillary bone (mandible) or lower jaw you will note the end that attaches to your head can actually focus the force of a blow to your chin straight to your temple...

They help stop concussions, they help stop you from getting knocked out, they protect your teeth, (chipped teeth the one day I didnt wear a mouth gaurd)... the mouth gaurd also protects from death from heavy blows to the chin.

              here's a debate that rages

my mma coch would say don't beit down onthe mouth gurad cause it's bad for your jaw but one of my kb instructors said you need to wear a double mouth guard and bite down(I'm not a fan of dmg) or when some body punches you in the mouth full force you'll lose teeth.so who's right?
