  • suplex

Have any of you actually seen a suplex used in a street fight or altercation other than a wrestling match? The only one I saw was in the UFC and it looked pretty effective.

What is the correct way to train this move without breaking Uke's neck?

saw it once in high school between a wrestler and some guy.
But the guy really didn't get hurt because he did it on soft grass, and didn't drive the guy's head down.

The only way to truly train it with the power and speed you need is with a wrestling dummy.

Suplex's are very effective in fighting. Dan Severn suplexed Macaias pretty good and Sak did a good one on Macaias also, do you see a pattern? Anyway, there are many different kind's, the bellt-to-back (german), belly-to-belly and T-bone are very good. Just use a big thick mat when practicing.

I remember that Severn x Macias fight, didn't he suplex him twice in a row? It messed him up, he was stunned and left wide open for the finish.

I'm personally better at the belly to belly, I train it with a spare heavy bag. I can do it to guys much bigger than me and probably end the fight with that one throw if it was on concrete.

          Evilution,

I have a heavy bag. What is the proper technique to start training that way so you don't throw your back outta whack?

I dip down and get a good grip on the bag, grabbing it with both arms. Then with my back kept straight I lift explosively and turn and slam. Just make sure you're careful on the initial lift. It's a little different than a real suplex because you have to lift from very low since the heavy bag isn't as tall as a person.

Can anyone describe the german suplex in detail?

Grab the opponent from behind, arms locked tightly around his waist, belly, or even chest, and keep your pelvis close to his butt (yeah, yeah eww, gross, etc) Squat down low with your legs, and straighten up using your legs to lift the opponent into the air. Once air born, arch your back and bring the opponent straight down on his head and shoulders. Your finished position should look like you are doing a "bridge".

in folk style, they turn at the last minute, and come down on their shoulder. It doesn't look as pretty, but the wrestler gets rid of the risk of hitting his head on the cement if it is a street encounter

Thanks Ryu. Can you tell me where my head should be in relaiton to my uke? I tried it when I was nine and dropped the guy on my face. Your explination may save me a broken nose.

                      ouch...

Well I always just keep my head tucked tightly into the guy's back, but I never face him with my face. I turn my face to one side. When you do the sup properly he can't come down on your face because his legs land opposite his own head when he lands. To be honest though, I prefer to turn at the last minute. Lift, arch, and turn onto your shoulder before you hit. It's a bit safer, and you can also get side control much easier.
(though again, I've split my head open before, and am scared of moves like that...so I shy away from the true german suplex anyway. Both are effective.)

Dude, try a T-bone suplex. Start with your head tucked under your opponents armpit with your head high. Your opposite arm around the head and neck and your other arm (your head side) grabbing outside high thigh / grion area and throw your hips into your opponenets and go straight over. Watch old ECW Taz tapes because he doesn't get to do it much in the WWF. I know your going to say it doesn't work but try it. It works for me. Late.

I saw a dude right after he hit a SUplex in a fight once. Brian Schulz was a Stud wrestler and a mean Mfer. He came into wrestling practice once and his shoulder was bloody. We asked him what happenend and he says check it out and motions us to the door. When we look out there is a guy laying in the parking lot out cold. Brian says "the dude cut me off so I flipped him the bird and he followed me here. The guy was a skinhead and when I got of my car he said he was going to kill me. He took a swing so I got behind and Suplexed him." Brian the whole time just had this big grin. My coach asks "does he know who you are?????" Brian replies " if he did , he doesnt anymore!" Brian throws me his keys and says " dude go move my car." I was laughing my azz off when I moved the car to a different parking lot. The guy had come to when I came walking up but was totally out of it and bleeding. He was asking me "what the hell happenend?" I said to him dude you got hit by a car....and they took off. The dude just sat on the curb totally dazed. I moved the car and went back to practice where Brian proceeded to pound on me for the rest of the afternoon like nothing had even happenend.

And there you have it! Suplexes are fight stoppers in the highest degree. I'd definately practice as much as you can.
                              Cool story, Terror.
