the fact that carlos watches dragonball z for training techniques, and still beats people up is hilarious to me.

the fact is...anyone who fights or has fought and won in both pride and ufc is a world class fighter.

you have to take into acount who is arguing here... me - just some guy who likes to train in mma for cardio because i am a weight lifter...
and you - not sure, but i would be surprised if you have won too many amateur fights.

who are you, or i, or 99% of the people on this forum to say carlos newton is not a world class fighter.

Ight i guess i made a mistake when I said he's not world class. What I ment to say is he's a 50/50 fighter. I LOVE carlos. He cracks me up too. But i just don't thinks he's a fighter of the wining, and fighting, capabilities say Matt, or Rich. Come on Rich beat the shit out of Ken Shamrock. Matt's Destroy'd almost everyone of his opponents. Carlos....eh, he wins some he looses some. Thats the difference I'm talking about. His record is 12-10 come on. His only real amazing victory= renzo gracie. But that was a split decision. And Renzo Gracie's last win was in 2001 in Pride 17 against a guy named Michiyoshi Ohara with an 0 and 2 record. So that's bogus too. Come on I'm just saying Carlos isnt' the best and shouldn't be put up there with the best. I mean Chuck is 17-3, Matt's 37-4 Rich is 17-1. Those arm champions records man. I'm just saying that a 37-4 fighter going up against a 12-10 fighter dosen't seem like a extemly difficult match for the 37-4 guy. I mean it was a wrestling vs. juijitsu match anyways. Those usually arn't very entertaining to watch either. So what got a 50/50 fighter like carlos in the ring with a guy like matt? That's what I'm questioning. Cuz it wasn't carlos' record and it wasn't a matchup that would be particularly entertaining (slam wuz entertaining though). So what got Carlos in the ring with Matt? All I'm wondering.

Carlos is indeed a world class fighter....he could of been great if he just spent 100% of his time in training but he dose not so that is why he has a 12-10 record.Whoever said he destroyed renzo obviously did not watch that fight...it was super close by i feel it should of went to renzo on more attepts to finish the fight ie guillotine, kneebar, rear naked choke, agressive striking etc etc.

i just watched the fight for the 3rd time...carlos had the upper hand the entire time, he got out of the knee bar fairly easily, and was back in control. his judo/greco-roman stlye takedowns were awesome...renzo lost big time.

newton's escapes were excellent along with his takedowns....but in pride you do not win big with reversals and takedowns...the judges criteria is above all else attempts to finish the fight and damage....those superciede everything else. The guillotine was in fairly tight not the best the rnc was not really applied good but that kneebar was in so super tight i couldnt believe he escaped that...he taped once to it but soon escaped. You can argue the winner based on personal preference but i do believe that renzo won....but it was very very close not a domination.

If thats the case it only proves my point further that Carlos isn't a champion fighter just a 50/50. Because look at Renzo's record. Lately it's pathetic. He's got the Gracie last name but jeeze come on.

Its true that renzo's record is not up to par with the rest of his familys....only because he fights the toughest people around and backs down from no challenge....the thing i still cant understand to this day is how the hell he lost to shungyo oyama my god i was like wtf!!?...as for newton he has stated over and over that he loves to fight but its not his life,he goes to tokyo university to study so he can get a degree as a doctor...and he now has a family to take care of so he focus on fighting was never 100%,can you just imagine if it was?

once again let me state that we are a bunch of no-names talking about how bad these fighters are.

to try to wrap this up...

matt is a better fighter than carlos
matt is one of the best 170 pounders of all time (as far as im concerned)
                    carlos is funny
carlos beat renzo but renzo got a great knee bar in
both carlos and renzo's records suck dingle berries
rich franklin is going to kill quarry
rich franklin is jim carry's long lost badass twin
and, my pet rabbit knows muay thai

About renzo. OK after 3 wins in 1999 starting at 2000 he fights Tamura 13-8, Sakuraba 18-9, and Henderson 18-4. Ok those are tough fights. Looses them all. Looses his confidence and gets feed slowly harder cannon fodder in Ohara 0-2, Oyama 3-8, Newton 12-10, then get a real good fighter with the same style B.J. Penn 10-2-1. The only fight he won was against Ohara! Renzo is done I think.

i agree with zh's wrapup. except for him being jim carrey's long lost twim. download jim carrey's womens self defense instruction from in living color. it's the good shiat.
