no pins in judo?????????
wtf??? also if you want to do mma then definately wrestling over judo wrestlers have the best shots and take downs of all grapplers including bjj and judo or any other art. I like the idea of arm bars and chokes being worked on all the time.

There are no gospel truths, and i think that knowing good leg sweeps and hip throws as in judo is a plus, as is wrestling for its shots and controll o the legs, as is greco for its controll of the wieght and the upper body for some very brutal throws. It's all good stuff. A judo background does ingrain the GRAPPLING possitions over the PINNING positions however, which is better in MMA competition or in a street fight. Wrestlers of all kinds do pick up these concepts faster than the average person, however, because they know about controlling a body on the ground.
Its all valid as a sport and it all has things that are effective in fights.

well I just recieved an email from the head coach of the wrestling club, and he told me that they teach freestyle wrestling. Im leaning more towards judo because Im interested in throws, but I was wondering for all you wrestlers out there, do you do any throws in freestyle, or is it just single and double leg shots?

Judo or Wrestling for takedowns?
Hi,
I have just joined this forum and it certainly seems like you guys all have a good rapport between you.
On to the Judo or Wrestling question. If it were purely for the takedown work in a practical situation I would say wrestling for sure. Judo is a great martial art but there are many takedowns that just would not work in the street. If you are going to train in the BJJ club as well as something else for takedowns you will not need what Judo has to offer. You will learn great ground skills and fighting from the guard etc. On top of this the club should do some take downs which tend to be the more practical ones from Judo e.g. Inside hook, outside hook, hip throw etc. The wrestling takedowns such as single and double leg will then be a great addition to these techniques.
Just my thoughts and experience
