  • WTF is dragonball jujitsu??

I was looking at carlos newton on fightfinder and his style is listed as dragonball z jujitsu??

  • #2
Dragonball z is a character from a japanese cartoon, Carlos always does some of the character's trademark moves when he fights like letting out a yell sort of like a kiai when he fights and acts like he is making a dragonball in his hands.

okay i just searched this forum and it already had a thread that explained my question.

Though some guy said Carlos Newton actaully does BJJ. Is that correct, because i always thought he just studied japanese JJ?

Well, a "ronin." In the same way Genki is a "samuria." Not a bad thing, just don't take it literally. I think he is just expressing one of his interests in his "style." I once saw some black guy (hes a good fighter, he faught vanderlai a few times, i forget his name....) who's style was listed as thug-jitsu. Again, I doubt this is an actual martial art, but its just an expression of the person's own little style, though it seems a little wierd to me.

Actually he is a real Ronin....a Ronin is a masterless warrior and since he travels so much he dose not train at a specific dojo or under a specific team while in japan or canada but he recently stopped doing that and stayed with terry riggs at warriors mma in canda.(terry riggs and joe"i belong in the super heavy class"riggs are not related

dictionary: In Japan, under the feudal system, a samurai who had renounced his clan or who had been discharged or ostracized and had become a wanderer without a lord; an outcast; an outlaw.

I suppose he is as close to a ronin as one can be nowadays, so i suppose i dont care if he calls himself one, since there is no longer a feudal japan, and there are no longer actual samurai, and nations/states do not fight with swordsmen anymore. I guess in a sence he is a "ronin," and in a sence genki is a "samurai," not exactly literally.

You are right to be a true ronin you would need the social structure and since there are no empires and feudal lords there can be no true ronin. People just use the term generically

He trains at Warrior Martial Arts Studio in Newmarket ontario. I think the Thug jitsu was probably Quinton Jackson. Also just to clarify Dragonball Z is the show not a character.

I read an interview with Carlos where he said he chose the name Dragonball Jiu Jitsu becuase he liked the cartoon, and did not want to call his fighting style newton jiu jitsu becuase it sounded pig headed. really he he just cross trains a lot of styles and is not ties to one style or ranking system.

Thugjitsu is what Yves Edwards calls his style, Yves doesn't portray a thug, but he considers his style very thuggish meaning he brings it when he fights so to speak.
