  • Why no Judo guys allowed in the early UFC?

I think it was unfaor to not have judo giys in the early UFC. Rioyce Gracie was matched up agaibst boxers and kickboxers and if coudrse he was going to win the event. What was all that BS with Helio Gracie in UFC1? It was so stuoid havng a tribute to him because it made it look like the fights were rigged for Royce to win.

Why didnt they let any good Judo fighters in the early UFC?S
Were they too scared to let a guy fight Royce who knew how to wescape fro submissions?

Why because Rorion created the UFC for the showcase of BJJ!
And he had to make sure Kimura was dead before claiming they never got beat. Kimura died a few months prior to the first UFC.

        Trust no one....

        fight the future..

what you don't think royce could have handled a judo guy? take a look at 'gracie judo invasion' sometime, not one gracie in the bunch had any trouble grappling with the judo guys. from what I hear that was a reputable judo place too. rickson was absolutely relentless and rorions commentary is hilarious.

"Why didnt they let any good Judo fighters in the early UFC?"

Christophe Leninger competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship III. He had been an alternate for the 1988 Olympic Judo team at 90 KG. He lost to Ken Shamrock. The only other world class Judoka I have heard of enetering MMA is Ben Spiikers from Holland. He won the bronze medal in the 1992 Olympics. He lost to Renzo Gracie in the first round of the World Combat Championships. The fact of the matter is that there have not been many world class Judoka that have chosen to compete in MMA.

I herd they put Leninger against Shamrock so that whoever won would be weeker when he fought Royce.
The Judo invasion was crap. The Gracie family takes on these guys that do Judo once a week as a hobby. I think that sucked majorly. If they had marched into an Ol;ypmic Judo training school it would have been a dsifferent story.

I sawe Ben Spiikers get his neck stepped on by Renzo Gracie.
I think its sucked that Renzo had to use foul tactics to win.

Robin Hood, I think your memory is warped. First off, Renzo didnt use foul tactict to win. He had already beat Spijkers, THEN he steped on his head. Right or wrong, that's how it happened. And yes, Christophe was in UFC 3 and who was it that Royce went against in the semi-finals of UFC 2????? I think it was Remco Pardeu, a JUDO player.

ask someone on here who knows more about judo, but the guy in the video who is getting mad at all the gracies for tapping him out is some sort of champion, maybe olympic??

The only two judokas that have competed with a national or international record are Spikjers and Leininger. I doubt that Ogawa has competed in a real MMA bout, so I don't count him.

                            Vortex,

The judoka in that video was a U.S. champion that had been retired for around 5 years.
