Why is it that someone becomes proficent in a martial art their head grows out of proportion to their body? What is the deal with that? There are grapplers that think that bjj is the best and strikers that think that their style is the best. Things never happen the way they do in the dojo, especially under a stressful situation such as a violent attack. When the chips are down it is heart and determination that count, when technique fails. There is no "best" martial art if there was everyone would do it. You can learn all of the techniques and forms in the world, but if you lack the heart to really hurt someone who is trying to do you in, you are going to lose. I doubt that many if any of the people in this forum have ever been in a life or death situation, where some crackhead is trying to kill you.
Lets be realistic people, if you are faced with a threat like a gun thrust in your face most people will freeze and will not be able to react. A knife is worse because it is silent and can be concealed easily, when facing some one with a knife you ARE going to get cut, face it that is a fact. Now I am not an expert, and I don't claim to be I only hold the rank of purple belt in Ed Parker's Kenpo Karate. I don't care how many times the Gracie's have won a NHB event, or how many times that Joe Lewis won a kick boxing match, there is ALWAYS someone out there the can kick the shit out of you. Having a black belt dosen't give you instant credibility. All styles of martial arts have weaknesses, and all offer something for someone. So lets put all the B.S. behind us and move forward, and learn from each other.
