I liked GSPs performance in that fight. But he got caught and he lost, no matter what the excuses. What kind of strategy were they thinking of, when we know that defending a arm bar is just as exhausting as applying it. I am not a fan of Hughes, but when fighting in a ring as a skilled fighter, there is no such thing as good luck. It should be all skill. And if you lose, just accept the fact that you need to work on your skills and improve. In the case of GSP, he under estimated Hughes. Never under estimate any opponent. Especially someone like Huges, who knows that his weakness was BJJ, but as a champion he went on training JJ to improve his game. He had no excuses when he lost to BJ. But worked on his weakness and look what he did to GSP.

Actually he did admit that he made that mistake and promised never to do it again. Also he stated that he gave Hughes to much respect....not underestimated him he overestamated him.Even Matt Hughes himself said that he got lucky to win that fight...everyone knows GSP will destroy him in a rematch. The thing is now he has to get past BJ.....thats going to be one of the best fights in 06....and i truly believe GSP will beat BJ and go on to beat Hughes.

I like GSP, he is awesome, but sorry guys, there is very little chance he can beat Penn. How do u see it ending? KO, nope, Penn is great on his feet. Submission, GSP CANNOT submit Penn. i DONT see how he can win. I like him , I hope he kills Hughes if they fight. GSP is well rounded, but Penn is a badass mutherfucker

GSP can Finish Penn by ko or by a dec....GSP will not be taken down like hughes or Gomi was.GSP has way beter striking then BJ....BJ has some very good speed and power in his striking but no where near the level of GSP.This is his year and he will be champ.BJ is going to have alot of problems with his weight and he looked very lackluster in his past 3 fights.I think the penn that toppled Gomi and Hughes is gone.

GSP has better striking.. and penn wont be able to take him down... its simple how he will beat him.. not sprawl and brawl.. sprawl and maul... heh heh... actually I think it will be a good fight.. I see GSP winning though.. hes alot bigger than penn

                Penn and GSP March 4th

I guess we'll get to see it after all!

                (from GracieMag):

Penn back to UFC on March 4th
                Franklin to defend middleweight belt
Now it is official. Black belt BJ Penn who is back to UFC after a period fighting for K-1, will face Canadian Georges St. Pierre on March 4th, when UFC 58 will be held at the Mandalay Bay Event Center, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

On the same night David “The Crow” Loiseau will get his first UFC title shot when he takes on UFC 185 pound champion, Rich “Ace” Franklin. This will be Franklin’s second title defense, his first defense came November of 2005, when he knocked out Nate Quarry in the first round.

GSP has a great ground game just watch the trigg fight. I mean Trigg is no BJ not by a long shot but if you look how well he controlled him it was amazing. He went from having his back to guard, back to guard so may times before he finally decided to sink a choke. He just had Trigg completly controlled, there was nothing he could do.

On another note the Louiseau, Franklin fight. What do you guys see happening there? I would favour Louiseau in that fight. Seeing him fight is almost as good as watching GSP go at it. They have basically the same style, I guess that comes from training together though.

Franklin will kill Louseau, bet the house on it.
Dominating Trigg on the ground isnt that impressive, he got arm barred at the ADCC in like 1 minute. GSP is impressive in all areas though so far that Ive seen him

It was right of him to strip Penn of the title... you dont go around fighting for other organizations when your under a contract with one, and when you are the champ of one.

Think about if Penn gets hurt in a fight.. now Dana cant have his champion fight anyone?... How is that good for business...

It was a smart business move.. fighter or not hes gotta respect the contracts he signs.
                        thats understandable....

i dont know what it is...but i have disliked that dude ever since the first season of tuf...i know its not fair of me to judge him without even ever meeting him... but its just something about him.

I've got franklin over lousieau, and GSP over penn....

Georges recently did pretty well in the ADCC did he not... and also.. I dont see Penn being able to take GSP down..

also didnt Jens Pulver outstrike BJ.. I think he did If I remember correctly...

now if someone asked who would win the striking battle.. gsp or pulver... I think more people would say GSP..

but since its BJ penn.. oh shit... everyone open their arms up wide... nutthugging time

Penn will close the distance and take him down I feel easily. GSP is outclassed, period. He is awesome, but not ready for Penn. Penn brings a pompous and arrogant and bad ass attitude into the ring. I like that.
Penn is the ONE guy that really shows his BJJ in the ring. He isnt a bloated and roided Vitor who jumped from purple to black and didnt take Titos back3 times when offered to him. Penn is the real deal, a REAL black belt, actually the 1st american to win the world BJJ championship, other than a brazilian. Penn by submission, or by GNP stoppage.

Were gonna have to agree to disagree... while pens BJJ is obviously a lot better than GSP's or Vitors as you mentioned...

I find my bjj isnt as good when I've got someone mashing my face with elbows... etc...

I guess we will find out though whos right..
