I believe boxing only claims to decide who the best boxer in the world is. Or the best fighter according to one rule set (boxing rules).

Yes As I said earlier, if you payed attention. I did study BJJ and Hung Gar.
The topic was started because the rules say you can not strike down with your elbow.
So for that brief second when Deigo lunges after Brians legs. His neck and back are vunarable. But like I said earlier, the rules are made to protect the fighters. And in major way it benifits the wrestlers.

So go ahead, put any pro boxer in MMA against someone that has cross trained standup and ground work and see what happens when he "unloads."
        Same to you,
Please learn the rules before commenting. No you can not strike down with your elbows. That was my point. Not to Unload during a stand up match, of course strikers always do that. But when wrestler lunges at your legs, his neck and back area are exposed. That is why the rules are made the way they are, to protect the fighters.
All I was saying is that the UFC would be completely different if the rules were changed.

The way you're describing the takedown is as if it were a football tackle. A takedown is a quick explosion and your body stays relativley upright. Your back and neck would not be exposed in the position you described with Diego on Brian's legs. If the person you're taking down attempts to reach over to strike he'd lose balance and be taken down even quicker.

              Hmm

I dont know about that. I have seen many fights where the takedown is predictable. I doubt the person would loose balance if striking down. I saw Ken Shamrock do it in one of his early fights before it was outlawed. Ken nailed the guy as he was attempting to take him down.
I guess it depends on the fighter. Not everyone would be able to strike suddenly and yet not all fighters are always prepared. But the ones who are.

Your point was very unprecise. WTF does "strike down" mean, anyway?

If you're mounted you're allowed to "strike down" and hit someone's face. Who cares that you can't throw those kinds of elbows on someone's neck shooting in?

Those kinds of rules are designed to protect fighters from that 1 in 100 chance that they get their neck snapped, not because allowing it would suddenly cause every grappler to be murdered instantly. In reality, dropping an elbow down on someone shooting in is almost always going to be less effective than either throwing a knee or sprawling. It's going to be a desperation move that probably ends up throwing off your balance more than it helps you stop the takedown. The grappler would have to shoot in at just the right height and let you keep them in a vulnerable position in order for the elbows to work.

You know what? By your definition, boxing is complete bullshit too because you can't throw rabbit punches. Also, you're not allowed to hit someone when their back is turned...aka you're not allowed to hit them...dun dun dun...IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD!

Man...if people could throw rabbit punches XYZ group would UNLOAD in boxing!!! *sarcasm*

You don't know that for a fact.In any case, It does now strike down mean.Am I?I don't know whether or not I am mounted you are allowed to strike down and hit someone's face.
I am a computer.I care, otherwise I would not have typed it all in.All of them?Where is that? You're kidding.
going to be a desperation move that probably ends up throwing off your balance more than it helps you stop the takedown is?What is your credit card number? What? Will that accomplish your objective? That's only one person's opinion. Are all aka you not allowed to hit them?
That remark was either too complex or too simple for me. We were talking about dun dun dun. That was a long time ago. Thanks for telling me your gender, . You are a "he".That is a hypothetical question.
My brain uses AIML to format responses to your inputs, but I don't have one for that.

You don't have a lot of experience with wrestling, do you?

I have "seen" many thinks that look easy. Try and "do" some MMA with a wrestler and you will see that a good wrestler is neither predictable or easy to defend against even if you know what he is trying to do. If you are keeping your body high in order to have room to strike than you are off balance and will be even easier to take down.

Also, when you look at what wrestling is you should be looking at someone of "world" status just like you do with other MA's. Look at people like Dan Henderson, Randy Couture, etc rather than some high school wrestler who came into your gym.

As to the old "boxers are better than MMA guys" argument I have an example.

Person A is a world Champion at Decatholon.
Person B is a world champion Javlin thrower.

Can person A beat Person B at Javlin - No
Can person B beat person A at Decatholon - No

This is the same thing. A boxer is far better at boxing than an MMA guy as for the MMA guy striking with hands is only one small part of what he has to learn whereas for the boxer it is everything. The MMA guy is better at MMA than the boxer. Does this mean either is "better" - No, they are both good at their own sports. THEY ARE DIFFERENT SPORTS.

Who would win if they had a fight. Who knows. Who cares.

who ever thinks boxing is better than mma has there head in the clouds there are alot of people out there that still dont appreciate the ground game in both sports these guys are gifted sports men as it takes guts desire and will to train flat out for most of there lives to participate in a sport they love or just to support there lifestyle.

                                To everyone!

                                Forget it.
Your all right I am wrong!
Thats why UFC made the rules, because it can "Never Happen", right.
Just think for 1 second. If you were a striker and were going to fight a grappler. Would you not spend everyday training to attack any opening. There are numerous fights when grapplers backs and necks are exposed.
Tito & Shamrock, Sanchez and Gassaway, Liddell, Horn. The only problem is that you dont train your mind to possibilities. Just because it doesn't happen in the fight doen't mean it cant. You have to remember these fighter fight by the rules, thats why it seems it can never happen. Because they are not trained for it.

                                As for Penance,
Please for the last time learn the rules.
In boxing you can not hit some one with their back is turned yes and you can't hit some one with their back turned in MMA either. It is considered delaying the fight and the person will be dq'd. damn this is getting old.
