I am currently in taekwondo and am a yellow belt. I like it alot but I also wanna learn jujitsu so that I can learn locks, throws and other moves that arent taught in taekwondo..should I take jujitsu and tae kwon do at the same time or not? Will it mess up my Tae kwon do Training? Also, does tae kwon do really work on the streets? Thanks.

yOU CAN TAKE BOTH AT THE SAME TIME BUT WHY bother, BJJ is 100 times more effective, actually take BJJ for 7 months and then challenge your instructor in TKD and you'll own him LOL

TKD is generally hated on, because it is in so many bullshit americanized "McDojos". Not to mention it is a traditional martial art and its sparring is generally very toned down, and they deal witht he problem of martial arts very differently than muay thai ect...
Time to read, time to learn and compare martial principle and technique, dont just be a TKD boy, I dont mean to offend but I bet your school sucks like 99% of other TKD schools.
Take BJJ, it will not interfere with your TKD, it will cover your grappling and grappling defence, while for now your basic TKD can cover you a little better than the average moron on your feet.

But isnt tkd supposed to be like the ultimate kicking/punching sport? I mean yeah I know about mcdojos but in my school they make us train pretty hard... I mean later on when you're around red/brown/black belt they incorporate hapkido and grappling stuff in my dojo but I dont wanna wait that long and it sounds like basic locks and grappling..

TKD is good for little kids, to teach them manners, respect, and confidence.
TKD as a sport? Just like any other sport, if you enjoy it, then play it.
Don't rely on TKD to save you in a self-defense situation, or even in a competition vs. other martial arts. Against "average joe" on the street it will give you an advantage, I suppose, but so will anything else.
There's sport BJJ and then there's self defense BJJ.
If you want to learn self defense, either find a solid BJJ school that doesn't overly-emphasize the sport aspects and then cross train somewhere else for standup/MMA/self defense or find a self-defense or MMA school that incorporates BJJ.
In any case, what matters most is physical and mental/psychological conditioning, as well as fighting spirit.
Perfect example of why TKD will get you killed on the street....
Try that spin kick stuff and see how quickly you end up on the ground getting owned.

Well TKD has its merits, but you've trained in one little dojo, you dont know about the big world yet ot other dojos, nevermind other arts.
As i said, EXPLORE the martial arts, learn. Develope a solid sportive base and work in some self-defence technique if you want MA to be self-defence for you.

Ill make as simple as possible. Go train in a BJJ dojo one time, and then decide if the McDojo that you train in really "trains you hard". Dont you want to be able to kick your instructors ass in 6 months? lol

BJJ is strictly about fighting, with a focus on fighting from the ground. You do this from day one. Within 2 months, you'll be able to beat someone with no experience in grappling. In 6 months you could probably beat alot of advanced rank martial artists who do not do ground work. I speak from experience from both sides.
If you're looking at time-value of money with self-defense as your investment, go with BJJ.
If you're just looking to get into good shape and learn a few self-defense techniques, are young and into martial discipline, TKD is a better art.

Don't join every dojo within 100 miles, but read, get perspective on different martial styles and learn about the differentces between traditional and modern martial arts. Take a look at other arts, learn practical skill from everything, learn principles and try to analyze things.
Learn BJJ because it teaches you basic grappling positioning and you train in a very sportive manner, it'll toughen you up and get you used to rolling full-force, and you'll learn to take people down, how to not be taken down, how to prevent people from submitting you, and how to submit them, these skills are overlooked by many TMA people.
Look around, absorb some stuff and certainly try BJJ if it is around you. Check out other schools as well, learn about other styles.
