i think he meant just Jiu Jitsu in general. jiu jitsu is pretty old, although there are still arts that are just as old if not older. muay thai traces its roots back over 4000 thousand years while jiu jitsu has been around for about over 2000. im not sure about this info, i could be wrong.

the best part about that video was the chick in the end and the sick armbar she put on steve-o.

That video was quite funny. About jiu-jitsu being the oldest, well that's not entirely untrue. Wrestling/grappling in and of itself is probably the oldest martial art being found in almost every culture around the world. And many jj techniques (especially groundfighting), can probably be traced back to ancient forms of wrestling.

????? you need to check history guys.

"Jiu-Jitsu, the oldest form of martial arts, originated in India more than 2,000 years before Christ. It spread through China and eventually settled in Japan."

thats 2000 years ----->B.C<------ that means its over 4000 years old.
Judo, and every other martial art is simply a dirivetive of "the gentle art"......Jiu Jitsu.

The Brazillian art form is the most effective in the world.

I can't tell if your post is directed at me or the quote.

                        MA History

An Indian Buddhist monk named Boddhidarma travelled to China to spread the influence of Buddhism. When? I forget but it was probably a good 500 years BC. Boddhidarma taught his pupils excercises since hours upon hours of meditation made them physically weak and overweight.

These excercises were eventually converted into a fighting system (gong-fu) when monks observed the way animals fought each other and tried to mimmick the animals using the basics of the excercise system.

So, gong fu is literally the first martial art. Jiu-jitsu was created much, much later.

                            you poor soul.

"As to the origin and native land of Ju Jutsu, there are several opinions, but they are found to be mere assumptions based on narratives relating to the founding of certain schools, or some incidental records or illustrations found in the ancient manuscripts not only in Japan but in China, Persia, Germany, and Egypt. There is no record by which the origins of Ju Jutsu can be definitely established. It would, however, be rational to assume that ever since the creation, with the instinct of self-preservation, man has had to figbt for existence, and was inspired to develop an art or skill to implement the body mechanism for this purpose. In such efforts, the development may have taken various courses according to the condition of life or tribal circumstance, but the object and mechanics of the body being common, the results could not have been so very different from each other. No doubt this is the reason for finding records relating to the practice of arts similar to Ju Jutsu in various parts of the world, and also for the lack of records of its origins."
                            ---- Sensei G. Koizumi, Kodokan 7th Dan

i guess you need to hear it from an ancient source?
