I was thinking about getting a Bowflex, I want to increase my muscle size and it's either gonna be a Bowflex or free weights. Any opinions? Thanks.

I just received mine by UPS on Friday. Now I've got to find someone to put it together.
I bought one because I'm too lazy to go to the gym and I get bored with free weights. I have no idea if it is gonna be effective. I figure the worst case scenario I have a 2000 dollar clothes rack.

I completely disagree with the warnings about the BowFlex.
I bought a BowFlex a couple of years ago and I've used it regularly ever since WITHOUT ANY INJURIES. The first summer I got it, my bench press went up from 3 sets of 8 x 145 lbs. to 4 sets of 10 x 225 lbs. in three and a half months. At the end of the summer I went into a local gym with some friends, and my performance on free weights was within a couple of pounds of what the BowFlex settings were.
I lifted in a gym with free weights all through high school and for two years in college and I was pretty much like any other reasonably in-shape guy. I was stronger than average, but really didn't look all that strong. I quit lifting for 7 years while in college and dental school. Then I realized that I was getting weak and out of shape, so I bought a BowFlex and started up again. I made better gains in 3 and a half months with my BowFlex than I did in any two-year period lifting free weights.
Obviously the BowFlex isn't totally responsible for my gains. Part of it is that I'm more physically mature now than I was then, and my metabolism is more conducive to conserving energy and making it available for muscle anabolism. Also, I took creatine for the first time when I got my BowFlex.
Nonetheless, all other things being equal, BowFlex is quite comparable to free weights in most exercises, and I think it is BETTER than free weights for one or two exercises. In addition, I think it is easier to get used to than the SoloFlex and many types of Universal Gym systems.
Probably the best thing you could do is buy a season pass to a good gym with a large array of free weights and well-balanced, well-engineered weight machines. However, if you want to work out at home, I recommend the BowFlex. I love mine.
If you're interested in getting one, I have a couple of suggestions on how to get it cheaper, and I think it has one minor design flaw that is easily corrected.

"Jackie Chan, the actor best known for infusing his action packed martial arts films with slapstick comedy, and for performing his own dangerous stunts, suffered an accident today while working on his latest film 'New York Chink' which has possibly left him paralyzed for life.
According to sources, Mr. Chan was practicing a fight scene in which he was supposed to narrowly miss being slammed between two tables, when the accident occurred.
"This is a terrible tragedy" said Mr. Chans publicity manager, Yim Fu Nuck, "but we are hopeful that he still has a long career in motivation speaking a head of him."
So far, doctors at NYC General Hospital have given no clue regarding Mr. Chans condition, though one did mimic a paraplegic while saying "Look at me, I'm Jackie Chan" repeatedly, right before declaring that he had "no comment to make at this time".
There is some speculation that a popular home workout device called the Bowflex is partially responsible.
"All I know is this;" said Yim Fu Nuk, "Before Bowflex, Jackie had never been paralysed, not even once. After Bowflex, Well just look at him!" at which point Mr. Nuk began drooling on himself and flopping on the ground while saying "Look at me?I?m Jackie Chan!"
According to Boxing Commissioner and head Mafioso, Antonio Finklestein, this was foreseeable. "I saw it coming" says Mr. Finklestein, "This proves that Martial Arts are dangerous, even in the hands of the greatest Martial Artist alive. If a man like Jackie Chan cannot keep from getting paralyzed from Martial Arts, then how can we expect our kids to live through it?" "
