  • Training multiple schools

I train with an awesome instructor and a great group of guys and I'll never leave the school unless I move. However, does anyone go to other schools and roll to get a different view of BJJ? The reason I ask is I know BJJ is a singualr art, but I know there are many personalized styles that an instructor has. Would it be beneficial to see the other views?

Most instructors wont train guys that are training at other schools, they dont mind it for a short time to enjoy the company of a fellow BJJ guy, but schools dont like their "secrets" getting out to other schools, expecially ones the compete against in tournaments. Ive seen guys turned away who want to train at more than one school for the exact reason, to get other perspectives. If the schools are affiliated, like a gracie barra, then its ok.

Eh, you can usually get a free class from them and at least try it out, maybe even go there often. I don't think there is a high likelihood of them denying you BJJ just because you train in another place as well, but it could happen. Give it a shot, its worth it.

I go to a few other schools but the instructors from the schools are friends with my instructor so its not too different. Id say if youre good and not new to the sport (no offence intended) then you should go to other schools and talk to the instructor and see if they do an open mat day.
