perhaps some, i dunno....Judo is in order? somehow i bet if you tried to blend the two styles you might discover how well they fit together....HMMMMM i wonder why that would be?

Hey Oma next time you have one of those high dollar privates from the Gracie's you like so much, thank them for "improving" the art. sounds like a simple fee to join a judo club would have saved you money and actually worked to put the guy down....little secret about applying those locks, if the guy is still stunned from the strike and throw combination that put him there, he is MUCH easier to get the lock secured on.

I didnt want to strike, if I did that I would have jsut knocked the fucker out, but it was a learning experience, Im not good enough to be a nice guy and "just' choke someone out, its broken bones and full blown MMA style fight next time

I thought you did BJJ only.

How will it be "full blown MMA" if you have never trained in it?

That is just fighting not MMA. You are probably no better a striker than the guy you were fighting. It may be you getting knocked out.

Hey OmaPlata, when screwing around with friends I find the
basic takedown technique of: shooting in and hugging opponents
waist...Grab own wrist, pull his waist in as your drive him to ground
with your shoulder (pull hard) ....very fast & effective. kinda like
              a technical tackle.

They say to be careful of catching a knee, so I wouldnt recommend
it vs a trained MMA fighter, but on the street it'd be the first
              thing I went for.

All the other techniques, seem to require too much energy for me.

I think he knows that one but you need to use the terms he's familiar with... I think he calls it "BAIANA". (the double leg takedown)

                Very basic stuff...

A proper shot for your double leg wouldnt be a bad idea, but trying to tackle someone... I dont know about that. I think a tackle "arms around waist" as he described would be way too easy to sprawl on, and its not too hard to sprawl than knee someones face in.

Yeah if I get double underhooks I will put one leg behind the other guys (mine inside his) and trip him, Ive seen a Judo black belt I train with take guys down in BJJ tourneys with that move over and over. I was trying that but lost balance and fell into my guard. This was in a kind of tight quarters too, no room for the full blown shoot in for the double

put his ass in a weak position while still standing, then reap one of his legs and send his skull crashing into the floor. do osoto gari and slam your bicep into his neck to off balance him before you reap his leg. and if u miss osoto, try to nail the hane makikomi right after. this way u have 2 chances.

I know I know, next time it will work out better. THe first time I had to worry about punches being hailed my way thats all, it kinda makes you look at some move different when you might get pounded for tryting and missing

Thats actually the beauty of Osoto Gari. Not only would it be painful if you were to full out slam someone, a high percentage move, and fairly easy to do. As far as I know, when you do it properly your right shoulder would be touching his right shoulder (if you were to take out his right leg), and your head would be then be beside his/your shoulder. Thats hardly a good spot for him to punch, distance wise, and angle wise, and then with both shoulders in the way.

Some techniques are better for EQCQ than others.... look into the "dropping" throws.

ie. Osoto Otoshi instead of Osoto Gari? Sumi otoshi, Tai otoshi, Etc...

The key to any throw is to off balance first... there are any number of ways to do that...

i could talk all day long about you could have done this or that but thats like beating adead horse its still not going to get us any where i applaud you omo for using restraint but i generally in a street fight make it a rule to be meaner than my opponent in this environment its ok to teach a serious lesson like anything street fighting comes with experience just dont start it just finish it any way you can good luck man

I'm no cage fighter, but I've noticed that ground-and-pound doesn't do a whole lot of good against my guard. They make light contact, but my shins and forearms absorb so much of it that I don't actually get hurt. Blocking at the elbow joints works well too.

They tend to wear themselves out after 6 or 7 strikes. By that time I've upset their balance and I usually am able to pop them in the chin or eye as they come down, or at least get a nice overhook or scoot to the side and move on to a choke or taking the back.

Also, if they are hugging me, their chin is usualy very vulnerable as they come up to try to get posture or strike.

Also, use strikes and kicks to the ribs, head, and kidneys to get them to respond and give you something to work with. Most people will just spazz out after a few good hits.

I've also found that the body triangle is magical against people with little or no ground experience. Lock it in, flex your feet and squease your knees in. Start dropping the hits to the head and ribs or grab the overhook to tie up one of their arms. They'll gas out quite fast or spazz out and give something up.

If they stand up in the guard and you can't get the typical sweeps, you can always just quickly sit up, hug their knees togther and tackle their legs brute force, then move to side control and knee them in the head

Slamming is very annoying. Not much I've found to counter it except strikes to the face or hooking under the leg while going for a triangle.
