Well, the question is simple--what's the worst injury that you have had since you started training bjj? Most common injury? And how about the most annoying one?

Torn ACL and Miniscus..... heel hook.
(We were both working for the ankle lock, he got the heel hook, I found out later he had no idea what he was doing, and insted of working it, just rolled to his stomach.... POP!)
If you ever wonder why they aren't allowed in competition, i'll e-mail you the medical bills!!!!

worst? - ruptured nut. I'm not kidding man! That hurt just walking! Not fun. And it was one of those stupid injuries too. Got it cought between my leg, my cup, and my training partner's forearm. ouch.
most common? - for me it is the bruised rib cartilidge. I have had that injuy at least 3 times since I've been training.
most annoying?- torn acl from heel-hook just like Mako. That didn't keep me from training but when my knee got full of liquid and was hard to bend that was seriously annoying. Makes it hard to run now too.

Worst: Popped my elbow three times. Once because of a bad partner, the other times because I was stupid and thought I could get out of an armbar. And broke my toe about 5 times.
Annoying: All those damn gi burns on my face. I have to work the next day and it can suck explaining to people what happened!

I just recently had my knee tweaked out pretty good. It didn't rip or anything, just kinda popped. I got caught in an ankle lock, but the guy had an insanely tight grip on my lower leg and when he arched his back he kinda twisted, and I tapped from the knee before the pressure from the ankle hit me. I tried to keep rolling afterwards (just basic guard passing stuff), but I had to pack it up early that day. I was also caught in a flying armbar that hurt pretty good. I couldn't bend my arm for a couple of days, but that seems to have healed up completely. My knee seems to be doing the same too, so that's good.
Smoky_D, lol. I don't roll with a Gi, but I get those burns/bruises on me all the time too. Usually from passing the guard (on my ribs), or from taking side mount, and popping out of guillotine chokes (My double leg sucks, and I always fall into a guilliotine, so the first thing I always have to do is get outta that before working for a sub). My wife saw some pretty nasty marks on my jawline, and kinda freaked. Since then she's been trying to get me to stop (she's not trying too hard, thank god).

Hey Mako, go ahead and email me those bills. I just love big numbers. I haven't really had any serious injuries since I started bjj but, as a beginner (which I still am), I have to tell you that the most annoying injuries were from constantly hitting my big toe(s) on the mat and having the edge of a gi scrape across my eye. Being younger and weaker, my opponents would always muscle me onto the ground and, no matter how tight I shut my eyes, the gi would squeeze its way in.
Anyway, some crazy injuries that I have seen or heard include several chipped teeth in one mouth(duh, get a mouth piece!), Instant sakuraba ear from a single roll, a ruptured nut (sccr06, are you okay?). No, I'm serious. Are you okay? Did it hurt? Um, an elbow that snapped the other way and broke in like five different places (check out the medical bill for that, Mako!) and finally, a perfectly shut black eye....from an attempted rear naked choke!

My knees have always slowed me down.
I've had them both scoped and cut on from Miniscus tears through the years. I've found that swimming laps rather than running for endurance has been the difference between rolling smooth and rolling with my knees popping and cracking......swimming is way easier on the knees.
The injury that put me out for the longest was torn cartilage and a separated rib. I don't know if you guys have experienced this but it's hard to breath much less get out of bed in the morning. Training was out of the question for me.
The most nagging injury that I'm sure everyone has is that pinky toe that always gets hung up on the mat and breaks....just tape it to next one and keep going. Gi burns on the face suck too.....I've got a nasty one right now.

True Tech- yeah I'm OK now, thanks for asking. It took about 3 1/2 weeks of non-activity to heal though.
Patrick- I what you mean with the rib injury. One of mine came about when a 200 lb. guy stacked me legs over torso and then dropped his weight on me. I heard something go "POP" and then the ribs hurt. ha

Full Contact Hawaii
"If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle."
Sprained pinky finger, going on 5 weeks now, can't stop training. Tender elbow from to many armbars. Mat burns and various bruises that my girlfriend gets angry about.

Sccro6,
LOL, yeah wives are wierd (and some of you guys think girlfriends are wierd...they change when you put that ring on 'em, really, no joke). She freaks everytime I limp around a little, or grunt in pain when reaching for something. I also do kung fu as well, but she seems to think that all of my injuries only come from bjj. She's a scrapper/brawler, but she thinks I'm so delicate and I shouldn't be doing that stuff. Funny, though, she doesn't seem to have a problem when I go do some good stiff contact sparring. Guess she thinks I'm actually good at that, little does she know. that's where I get the majority of my bruises and strains.
