Andrei Arlovski, Fedor Emelianenko, Chuck Liddell, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueiro, Alistair Overeem, Quinton Jackson, Hidehiko Yoshida. No particular order (except we know my first 3 picks all have championship belts in their own weight class/organisation).

Oh jeez, captian traditionalist here to tell us all to throw away modern martial arts and modern "sportive" training methods/competition. Maybe they would be better if they knew YOUR art, because YOUR traditional art is the best martial art there is, and if we only did more kata we might understand you.

gentlemen-who said anything about traditional arts. my mentor, friend, brother and instructor is a Master at a great many traditional arts, but he knows the REAL DEAL is in WW2 combatives, not some japanese man in a white suit. these PROVEN techniques will silently kill any mma wannabe idiot prancing about in lycra knickers all day.

gentlemen-that crap Larsen teaches is so much bullshit gracie nonsense, fine for rolling around the floor in an arena, would have got men KILLED fighting nazi storm troopers. will get them killed fighting arabs too no doubt.

the ONE true way has already been outlined by the GREATS such as fairburn/applegate/sykes. there is nothing new under the sun Larsen is going to get our boys killed with this rolling about nonsense.

you know, I've always been skeptical about the whole BJJ craze, while I do realize it has some value, and is an interesting sport, I question it in a real world street encounter; I mean I am not looking to do an omoplata on some thug that wants to hurt me, especially not on concrete...

I completely agree with your sentiment. Grappling is a must know for self-defense, but shouldn't be the complete focus.

What if you end up on the ground when someone puts you there? That's where BJJ comes into play, but yeah I see what you mean.

I completely agree, sport and combat are two different things... not trying to knock BJJ, but winning tournaments and fighting for your life are two different things..

I totally agree with you, that's why I believe that BJJ has value in its escapes, but I would leave out the nonessentials... just like what Bruce said, discard what is useless..
