Some of you may think this is a dumb topic like all those "4 da streetz" topics but go ahead and humor me. For those who don't want to read my short story below just skip ahead to the question.

I was hangin out with some friends the other day and we were talking about martial arts a bit. Talking about punches.
I mentioned the hook being a nice punch. You get the fast whipping motion and power from pivoting your hips and leaning into it. Then this one guy chimes in and says "yeah, but the most powerful punch is a straight punch". This is a guy who has been doing some hardcore TMA Karate for the past year. So I'm pretty sure he was talking about the Karate "chambered" punch.
Then another guy, who has never done a day of any MA training in his life or read a single text on the subject, whole heartedly agrees with him.
I disagreed but didn't feel the need to get into an argument about it so I said nothing. But then I thought about it, and I don't really know what the most powerfull punch is.
If someone asked me to answer that question myself I'd guess it's the overhand right.
I'm posing this question in the MMA forum because I wanted opinions from various MA practitioners. Not just boxers (the striking MA I most subscribe to).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
So which punch is the most powerfull? (has the most potential for damage in a single hit). No consideration for location. Of course a strike to the neck has a lot of damage potential but I'm just talking about the type of punch.
