There was a new foreign guy at the dojo last night. He has a little bit of experience in judo and it was only his second BJJ class. Afterwards an American mentioned to me that the new guy was pretty good considering his experience level. I said to him that I've noticed that gai-jin seem to be naturally stronger that the Japanese. He said he had noticed the same thing and that first time he and I sparred he was suprised how easily I had put him on his ass. Don't get me wrong. There are Japanese guys at the dojo who are ripped and strong as hell. But I've noticed that Japanese guys with average builds who are beginners seem to have the physical strength of a child. Where as gai-jin seem to be strong enough to at least make me work for things. Even with guys that are more experienced, whether they are better than me or not, the same seems to be true. Is this just coincidence?

Yeah, Choptix, especially those Korean boys. My high school in NY was probably 30% or more Korean and some of those guys are freaking huge. People in developed Asian countries like Japan and Korea are a lot bigger than they were just a few generations ago. They better thank Uncle Sam for unleasing MickyD's on the world.

The myth about Asians being smaller is based on the fact that they used to be a few generations ago as a result of poor nutrition. This is no longer the case because they eat netter now. In fact, they are now considerably larger than Caucasians on the average.
A guy I work with said that he visited China once. He is 5' 10", and said that he was dwarfed (he specifically used the word dwarfed) by 2/3 of the men and 1/3 of the women. He also heard told me that the inhabitants of Thailand and the Phillipines today, as a result of improved nutrition, are among the tallest people in the world. He said the Watusi in Africa are the tallest and the people of Thailand and the Phillipines follow closely after. The third tallest was a Scandanavian country. Another interesting fact is that even though the Watusi are slightly taller, the people of the Phillipines are much heavier. They are basically built like their distant Samoan cousins except are almost as tall as the Watusi.

You guys have obviously never ordered an XXL T Shirt from Japan or other Asian countries.
I dont believe that Thais are amongst the tallest people, you only have to look at stats on real Muay Thai fighters to know this. How many heavyweight Thai Fighters are there? Even in K1 the Thai guy is a lightweight fighting the heavyweights.
It has little to do with diet, its all about genetics.
On average, Asians are smaller than Anglo's or Negroids.
Its just a fact.
Please noone mention Gary Coleman or Dudley Moore.
